Found November 23, 2012 on Mets Merized Online:
I’m busy working on MMO’s official Mets Top 25 Prospects list. I should start rolling it out in reverse order beginning next week. As I near the completion of all my research and start to fit in all the pieces of the puzzle as best as I can, I’m finding it so interesting to see how much things have changed from just one year ago. So many prospects have fallen out off last year’s Top 25, while many new rising Mets prospects replace them. Several players who were near misses last Winter, have had breakthrough seasons in 2012 and locked up spots in the MMO Top 25, while others saw their stock fizzle. While ranking all of these players, some of the decisions are obvious and easy, but then you come to some choices that are much more difficult to assess and require a more thorough examination. There’s a nice battle shaping up for who the Mets’ best hitting prospect is between Wilmer Flores and Brandon Nimmo. The winner will get slotted in the No. 2 spot behind what we all know will be my...

Selling High On Dickey: Mets May Prolong A Decision Into January

There has been a lot of speculation over the past few weeks as to whether or not the New York Mets will trade current Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey before the start of the MLB regular season.  Many reports have filtered out over the course of the past few days, many of which stating that the team would want a lot in return for Dickey, and would not trade him if they were not properly...

Other Clubs Don’t Believe Dickey Is On The Trade Block

Jayson Stark of ESPN is hearing from several clubs who are telling him they don’t believe that R.A. Dickey is really on the market — yet. The Mets have listened to offers on him since the GM meetings. But teams that kicked those tires came away with the impression the Mets still prefer to sign him, and are just lining up trade options in case those talks fall apart. Sounds like...

Alderson Has Given Mets Fans Nothing To Be Thankful For

Sandy has done a lot of talking with very little action thus far. Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson has not given the Mets fans much to be thankful for so far this offseason. It is almost the end of November, and all he has done is make a few minor league signings. At this point it’s tough to say whether or not the players he has signed thus far are going to help us next year...

Niese Is As Close To Being Untouchable As Any Met Can Get

When I look at the current Mets’ 40-man roster there are few players where it would take a lot to pry away from the team. Matt Harvey is one of them, in fact, there’s a thought of re-doing his contract as to buy out his arbitration years. I keep Harvey, of course. And, prospect Zack Wheeler.               NIESE: An untouchable Met? Also on the list is Jonathan Niese, who...

MMO Flashback: Mets Want 3-4 Players For Reyes

Two years ago today, on November 24, 2010, this report from HoJo’s Mojo topped 12,000 unique reads and was what I considered to be the start of a 13 month, non-stop cycle of near-daily Jose Reyes news reports, rumors, and blog posts. It was the beginning of the end for Reyes, and when I personally started saying and writing that the All Star shortstop was as good as gone after...

Mets Sign Wanel Mesa To Minors Deal

The Mets have signed right-hande pitcher Wanel Mesa to a minor league contract, according to Baseball America. Mesa, who will be 26 in January, spent seven years in the Washington Nationals organization before being unconditionally released after the 2010 season, never making it past Single-A ball. In his final season there, Mesa made 38 relief appearances with a 7.00 ERA before...

Down On The Farm: Farewell to Bingo?

The Binghamton Mets appear bound for Canada, eh?   We’ve heard it for several years now that the Binghamton Mets were moving to Canada, and more specifically Ottawa, Ontario. According to Josh Levinthal of BaseballAmerica.com through Metsblog.com former Mets player and current owner of the Texas Rangers Nolan Ryan will be buying the Binghamton Mets and moving them to Ottawa for...

From Left Field: I’m Thankful For The Mets

It’s easy to be a Yankee fan. Every year they’re fighting for a World Series crown. If they don’t make it, they go out and spend millions of dollars to bring in players who will help the franchise achieve its goal of a championship. And if it doesn’t work that year, they’ll repeat the process until they get it right. On this Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for a variety of...

Hey Met Fans, What Are You Thankful For?

I love Thanksgiving. It’s definitely one of my favorite holidays mostly because it brings our entire family together and it’s all about good memories, good food, and good times. I’m very thankful for the family I have. But as a Met fan I’m also thankful to be a part of such a unique fan base – my Mets family. I love our passion and how intellectual and knowledgeable we...

MMO Mailbag: Trading for Giancarlo Stanton

Hitman asks: With this hoopla going on right now with David Wright and the contract negotiations (Wright being dissatisfied by the contract offer in length & value), and Giancarlo Stanton being very outspoken against Miami, wouldn’t it be smart to package Wright along with Johan Santana (eat about 60% of his contract), Zack Wheeler, Jeurys Familia, and Rafael Montero in order...

The Tide Is Shifting: Alderson Will Be Held Accountable This Offseason

It’s my first morning back home after spending three days in Saratoga, NY where some of my family resides and where we celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday. It’s always nice when the entire family gets together again for those 2-3 occasions a year where we eat, have fun, and catch up with everyone on everything. I come from a family whose loyalties are evenly divided at 50...

2012 Black Friday value list for the Mets

Obviously, this offseason,  more than the previous two, has left New York Mets fans completely in the dark as far as their offseason moves are concerned. The stalling in the negotiations with 3B David Wright and RHP RA Dickey have given fans the feeling it will be a long offseason. GM Sandy Alderson has stated, in the few times he has addressed offseason moves, that the Mets...

Orel Hershiser and Bob Gibson: Opposite ends of the autograph spectrum

During Thanksgiving I got an early Christmas present when my sister gave me this autographed ball of Orel Hershiser. My sister works in the financial industry and she met Hershiser at a conference. Turns out he is involved with a company whose main line of business is providing – of all things – bridge loans of 90 to 120 days. Of course anyone who has followed the Mets is...
