The Florida Marlins have reunited with their ex-super utility man Alfredo Amezaga, who they acquired from the Colorado Rockies Saturday for minor league infielder Jesus Merchan. Amezaga will join the big league club immediately. To make room for Amezaga, the Marlins designated Joe Thurston for assignment. Thurston was selected from Triple-A New Orleans and played one game Friday in place of the sidelined Omar Infante. A member of the Marlins from 2006-09, Amezaga appeared in just 20 games with the Rockies and went 8-for-33 (.242). At Triple-A Colorado Springs, Amezaga batted .305 with a .829 on-base plus slugging percentage in 239 at-bats. Amezaga before this season had not played in the majors since May 16, 2009 with the Marlins. A left knee injury ended his season. He spent 2010 in the Dodgers’ organization, but was limited to four plate appearances at Double-A.
