Artist Red Grooms’ wikipedia page notes he’s “best known for his colorful pop art constructions depicting frenetic scenes of modern urban life.” Marlins home runs at their new ballpark next season certainly will be frenetic, if for no other reason than the spectacle they will ignite in center field. Owner Jeffrey Loria commissioned Grooms to create the Miami version of the Mets’ home run apple. Grooms’ work, depicted here courtesy of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs’ Facebook page, could make it difficult for fans to concentrate on the hitter circling the bases.
