From 1952-’61, NBC ran a documentary series titled This Is Your Life. The premise of the show: Celebrities and ordinary folks alike would be treated to a retrospective of their lives, complete with friends, family members and surprise guests.
Wednesday’s Sun Life Stadium wrap-up felt a little like that. The place was personified, and the individuals responsible for orchestrating some of the greatest baseball moments within the structure were trotted out. Players from just about each of the club’s 19 seasons in Miami Gardens were present. Also there: first owner Wayne Huizenga and team president Don Smiley.
The all-time team as decided by fan vote was introduced. For those who missed it: C Pudge Rodriguez, 1B Derrek Lee, 2B Luis Castillo, 3B Mike Lowell, SS Hanley Ramirez, OF Miguel Cabrera, OF Jeff Conine, OF Gary Sheffield, SP Kevin Brown, SP Livan Hernandez, SP Josh Beckett, SP Dontrelle Willis, SP Al Leiter, RP Robb Nen, UTL Alfredo Amezaga and MGR Jack McKeon.
