The Marlins closer remains on the restricted list. Whether Oviedo, being arbitration eligible, is subject to the non-tender date remains uncertain.
Teams have until midnight on Dec. 12 to offer contracts to their unsigned players or they are declared free agents.
“I’m not real comfortable going into the ins and outs of it, but we have been in communication with Baseball,” Beinfest said. “There’s been some work quietly on the immigration side and his status. He’s been very cooperative and the team has worked very hard to try to get clarity because I think it’s better for everybody, but yes, we do understand how we have to deal with him given his situation.
“We’re all hopeful he’s going to be back here as Juan Carlos Oviedo and back in the count...

Baseball America tabs Christian Yelich top Florida Marlins prospect
Baseball America on Wednesday released its top 10 Florida Marlins prospects for the 2012 season. No surprise former first round pick Christian Yelich claimed the top spot after helping low-Class A Greensboro win the South Atlantic League championship two months ago.
As expected, most of the organization’s high end prospects are in the lower levels. Three other players from...
Marlins hoping Javier Vazquez does not depart
With the quarrels of retirement surrounding pitcher Javier Vazquez, the Marlins are hoping that the 35-year old right-hander does not call it quits just yet. Probably just in-case the Marlins do not bring in anyone this offseason.
Vazquez started off slow and I remember giving him garbage for his poor play back in the beginning of the 2011 season. However, he finished great down...
Leocoaster May Return to Marlins
The closer formerly known as Leo Nunez could make a return to Major League Baseball in 2012, either as a member of the soon-to-be Miami Marlins or as trade bait before the start of the season.

Marlins' Ramirez hopes to remain a shortstop
Hanley Ramirez is hoping to be ready for the start of spring training as he makes progress in his recovery from left shoulder surgery.
And Ramirez is expecting to open the season at his usual position -- shortstop.

Florida Marlins 1B Sanchez, 2B Infante Gold Glove finalists; Thurman joins staff
As further evidence of the Marlins’ improved defense in 2011, two of their infielders are finalists for a Rawlings Gold Glove award.
Neither first baseman Gaby Sanchez not second baseman Omar Infante is a favorite, but being included among the top three at their position in their circuit is a worthy accomplishment nonetheless. A vote of league managers and coaches determine...
Perry Hill Will Not Return
According to multiple media outlets, Perry Hill who served as first base and infield coach for the Florida Marlins in 2011 will not return next season. Hill had been a key member of the 2003 coaching staff and returned in 2011 to try and turn around one of the league’s worst infield defenses. Hill is [...]

Keri, who posted it on Thursday, broached just about every relevant subject with Morrison, from his demotion last season to his Twitter habits to the possibility he might get traded this winter. Buster Olney floated the idea the Marlins could dangle Morrison for Tampa Bay right-hander James...
Anibal Sanchez Player Projection No. 157
Key Stats: He's nothing if he isn't consistant. In 2010 he made 32 starts and pitched 195 innings. 2011? 32 starts and 196.1 innings. Not only that, there was a only a difference of 10 pitches thrown between 2010 and 2011. The rest of his numbers are close enough too that lead you to beleive this isn't coincidence. 2010: 3.55 ERA, .305 BABIP, 3.32 FIP2011: 3.67 ERA,...
