Florida Marlins: Joe Thurston, DeWayne Wise among non-roster invitees

A couple new names on the list of non-roster invitees the Marlins released on Thursday. Perhaps the two most intriguing are infielder Joe Thurston and outfielder DeWayne Wise. Thurston became a well regarded prospect in the Dodgers’ system after they drafted him in the fourth round in 1999. He made his major league debut in 2002, but he never establshed himself on the club and since 2005 has played for four different organziations. The left-handed hitting Thurston can play second, third and short, and is a career .293-.355-.420 hitter in the minors. He last appeared in the majors in 2009 with the Cardinals, totaling 307 plate appearances and batting .225. Also a left-handed hitter, Wise since 2000 has totaled 376 games in the majors with five different teams. He is perhaps best known for an outstanding catch in center as a member of the 2009 White Sox that presevered a perfect game for Mark Buehrle.
