If there was any doubt that it all starts with pitching, especially starting pitching, then look back at the last two games. First Johan Santana tanked. Today, R.A. Dickey gives up eight runs in four and a third to send the Mets to their second straight loss. It's a shame to bang out fourteen hits, score six and lose. But when your starter can't come up with a quality start, and your entire staff gives up two touchdowns to a team that couldn't hit the broadside of the Great Wall of China before this series, that's what is going to happen. Dickey has been so good for so long, having had a long streak of quality starts snapped with this rain filled outing. Perhaps it was the rain. Perhaps it was Dickey's game plan for a wet ball, as he said post game. But the relievers weren't so hot either. The Braves relievers, who had to pick up for Jair Jurrjens (predictably), did a better job than the Mets' relievers did.I thought the key to the game was the sixth inni...
BEST OF MAXIM
After seeing Johan Santana struggle mightily against the Braves on Tuesday night, New York Mets fans were left to worry about more than just the outcome of the game. A loss to Atlanta is never easy to stomach, but for me the real reason to reach for the Pepto was the thought that the 33-year-old lefty may not have been right physically in what turned out to be the shortest start...
Every few chapters while reading R.A. Dickey’s 300+ page piece of therapy, Wherever I Wind Up, I would turn to my wife and express my pity for him.I call it his “therapy” only half in jest. Throughout the read, you feel him releasing his secrets, his demons, his fears, his doubts. The author pulls no punches. He comes out of the box and describes (his only now public) sexual...
The rubber match game between the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves will be an early bird special as the teams square off at 12:10 p.m. in Turner Field. R.A. Dickey will face off against Jair Jurrjens for the second time this season in a rematch of their April 7 showdown.
New York will hope the results (a Mets win) will be the same this time around and for Dickey, well he will...
Mets 6 – Braves 14
The bad news is RA Dickey’s long run of 15 quality starts is
over. Hopefully he can start another streak of 15 in his next outing. Dickey

The Mets were defeated by the Braves 14-6 in today’s afternoon finale. RA Dickey fell apart today, giving up 3 home runs and a total of 8 earned runs.
Dickey had a lot of movement on his knuckle ball in the first inning, but after that the ball floated and the Braves’ hitters drove the ball out of the ballpark three times.
Dickey was followed by Batista, Parnell, Byrdak, Rauch...
SANTANA: Tough go-around today.
Johan Santana must have got on the bad side of lady luck as he records only four outs in a 9-3 Mets defeat.
If you check the box score, you will see a line of 1.1 IP for Santana with 6 R(4 ER), 4 H, and a walk. Santana has never lasted less than three innings in a game, so this is the shortest outing of his career. I can assure you, however...
This afternoon the Mets (7-5) fell to the Atlanta Braves (7-5) by the final score of 14-6.
After looking un-hittable in the first inning, R.A. Dickey got smacked around by the Braves’ hitters giving up three 2-run homers, and 8 runs in 4 1/3 innings of work.
There’s really nothing else to say about today’s game other than the Braves hit the snot out of the ball and the Mets...
0.90: The ERA of Mets' ace Johan Santana through two starts and ten innings pitched this season. Good for 5th in the National League over that time. 1: The number of stolen bases by the team through the first ten games this season. Tied for last in MLB with the Tampa Bay Rays.2: The number of strike outs by David Wright. To date he is striking out one out of every twelve...
When R.A. Dickey gave up a second-inning double to the Braves’ Freddie Freeman during Wednesday’s rubber match with Atlanta, it marked the 7,980th consecutive game that a Mets pitcher has failed to pitch a no-hitter. How many games have the Mets played in their half century of existence? 7,980.
Barring any rainouts or (heaven forbid) an actual no-hitter in the next 20 games...
Rookie Tyler Pastornicky belted a two-run double to highlight a five-run second inning and Freddie Freeman also drove in a pair of runs as the host Atlanta Braves posted a 9-3 win over the New York Mets on Tuesday.
The victory was Atlanta's first in five tries versus New York this season.
Freeman capped an 11-pitch at-bat with an RBI double and Pastornicky scored after advancing...
The New York Mets (7-4) will oppose the Atlanta Braves (6-5) this afternoon at 12:10 PM as they look to take the rubber match of a 3 game series that has seen a Jekyll and Hyde performance from their pitching staff.Heading into yesterday evening's game, the Mets pitching staff boasted an ERA in the low 2s, an impressive number for a team that had pitching dubbed as a major vulnerability...
ATLANTA (AP) -- Dan Uggla knew about his struggles against R.A. Dickey. His focus was on stopping another streak of futility that was beginning to affect his sleep.
Uggla, Juan Francisco and Freddie Freeman hit two-run homers off Dickey to lead the Atlanta Braves over the New York Mets 14-6.
Uggla had been 0 for 24 against the knuckleballer before his home run capped a four-run...
Good morning and welcome to another wild day of Mets baseball. Last night Johan Santana got shelled and New York ended up losing to Atlanta 9-3. Fortunately, the opportunity to get over the loss has come quickly, as today’s game begins at 12:10 PM. Daytime baseball!
