Ricky Nolasco struggled as the Miami Marlins fell to the New York Mets 9-3 on Saturday.   A day after an exciting last at-bat victory, the Marlins were unable to solve R.A. Dickey while the pitching staff was unable to stop David Wright and the Mets.    With the loss, Miami fell two behind New York and is now 17-16 on the season.

Nolasco allowed six runs in only four and two third innings while showing an uncharacteristic lack of control.    The right-hander who normally has an above average walk to strikeout ratio walked three while also striking out three.   There were several three ball counts that led to Nolasco throwing a total of 95 pitches in his short effort.    Things weren’t much better for Mike Dunn who was making his first appearance since being recalled from AAA as he allowed a run on three hits while only retiring two hitters.   Chad Gaudin, Ryan Webb and Steve Cishek rounded out the pitching side for Miami with a run each being surrendered by the latter two.

As a team, the Marlins had thirteen hits in the game despite only scoring three runs.   Dickey has long confused Marlins’ hitters with his knuckleballs but the team managed to get on base on this one.   Gaby Sanchez was one of the Marlins who seemed to have figured out Dickey as he hit every ball hard that was put in play.    It was a two hit day for Sanchez including his ninth double of the season.    Giancarlo Stanton added his eighth double while Hanley Ramirez tallied his seventh two bagger.   Jose Reyes had  the best day of all picking up his first four hit game as a Marlin.

On Sunday, the Marlins will look to win the series as they send Carlos Zambrano to the mound to take on Jonathon Niese.
