Given his past as a two-sport athlete, former Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Nyjer Morgan figured he would have no trouble adjusting to Japan's unique brand of baseball. A slow start and demotion to the minor leagues may have shaken that confidence, but Morgan is now starting to make a major impact with the Yokohama DeNa BayStars of Japan's Central League. The 33-year-old native of San Francisco is batting .303 with 31 RBIs and a career-high seven home runs in 67 games as the No. 3 hitter for the BayStars. His progress has been so steady, the team was able to send veteran Alex Ramirez to the minor league team. Ramirez is one of the most successful foreign players in the history of Japanese baseball and earlier this season collected his 2,000th hit in Japan. ''It's all a learning process,'' Morgan said. ''I didn't get mad because I failed in my first month here. In this game you are going to fail more than you succeed. You've just got to k...

The Five Silliest Reactions to Braun’s Suspension (And a Sensible One)

(Image: Jacquelyn Martin/AP) Now that it’s been over a week since Ryan Braun accepted a 65-game suspension for violating MLB’s drug policy and basic agreement, professional and amateur pundits have had plenty of opportunity to share their opinions.  Some of these reactions have been thoughtful and interesting.  Many more have been tedious.  Here are five examples of the...

Meet Larisa Fraser: Ryan Braun’s lingerie model fiancee

Have we mentioned that disgraced Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun's fiance is smokeshow lingerie model Larisa Fraser? Here are photos of her.

Brewers place Yovani Gallardo on disabled list

The Milwaukee Brewers have placed right-hander YovaniGallardo on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. The extra man on the roster for Tuesday's doubleheader, second baseman Scooter Gennett will stay up to fill Gallardo's roster spot.Leaving Tuesday's start in the fifth inning, Gallardo likelyaggravated a nagging hamstring when he dove to catch a bunt...

Young outfielders getting an opportunity with Brewers

If all had gone according to plan for the Milwaukee Brewers this season, Logan Schafer would be a fourth outfielder fighting to stay ready on the bench, while Caleb Gindl and Khris Davis would be playing in Triple-A. But nothing has gone according to plan for the Brewers this season. Even backup plans have found a way to go awry. There are very few positives in the season-ending...

Brewers Wednesday: Yovani Gallardo to 15-day disabled list

The Milwaukee Brewers placed right-hander Yovani Gallardo on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained left hamstring. The extra man on the roster for Tuesday's doubleheader, second baseman Scooter Gennett, will stay up to fill Gallardo's roster spot. Leaving Tuesday's start in the fifth inning, Gallardo likely aggravated a nagging hamstring when he dove to...

Brewers don't intend to trade Kyle Lohse, Yovani Gallardo, Nori Aoki

I just checked in with Brewers general manager Doug Melvin who is not in Chicago preparing for today's split doubleheader with the Cubs. Instead he's at Miller Park in the trade "war room" where things seem very quiet leading up to the Wednesday 3 p.m. non-waiver deadline. Because right-hander Kyle Lohse has been pitching so well for so long I asked Melvin if he...

Brewers endure key injury amid doubleheader sweep

Tyler Thornburg threw the ball well enough to earn another start in the near future. Unfortunately, the Milwaukee Brewers likely will need a starter five days from now due to an injury. While two comeback victories over the Chicago Cubs paced Milwaukee to its first doubleheader sweep since 2010, the Brewers may have lost right-hander Yovani Gallardo in the process. Gallardo left...

Brewers' Marco Estrada began rehab this week

In their plan for Marco Estrada to make three rehab starts, the Brewers' path to getting one of their young starters back in the big league rotation began this week. Marco Estrada threw 2.2 innings for the AZL Brewers in his first rehab outing. He allowed one run and struck out four. #Brewers — J.P. Breen (@JP_Breen) July 30, 2013 Estrada, 30, was placed on the 15-day...

Brewers' Aramis Ramirez making slow progress with knee

With Ryan Braun suspended for the remainder of the season, the Milwaukee Brewers have decidedly less pop in lineup.  That will change when Aramis Ramirez returns from the DL. Unfortunately, the progress he is making in his rehab is slow and there is no date set for return. Adam McCalvy of MLB.com says Ramirez has been making progress, but it has not been as quick as he or the...

Milwaukee Brewers offering vouchers during August games

In fallout of the whole Ryan Braun situation, Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio will be offering a $10 voucher to each fan that attends the team’s home games in August. The voucher will be good for being used on food, beverages, tickets, or (I was close to including”and” here but one cannot even buy some beers for $10) team apparel/merchandise. “We were finalizing something...

Brewers try to finish four-game sweep of Cubs

The Milwaukee Brewers have saved the majority of their runs for the late innings and are on the verge of their first four-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs. Scoring may be more frequent for both teams if Chicago starter Edwin Jackson can't end his struggles versus the Milwaukee Brewers and Wily Peralta is unable to overcome his recent woes Wednesday night. The Brewers (46-61) haven...

Brewers 3, Cubs 2

Jeff Bianchi delivered a two-run single off shortstop Starlin Castro's glove with two out in the ninth to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs and a day-night doubleheader sweep on Tuesday. The Brewers pulled out the nightcap after a 6-5 victory in which they lost starter Yovani Gallardo to a tight left hamstring. In the second game, they got six...
