Eric Jagielo is a very talented Junior 3B from Notre Dame. He spent this past summer playing for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League. He turned in a great summer season and one scout said this about Eric, "the ball explodes off his bat and he has a real future as a power-hitter."
Eric hit .291 in 158 at-bats and he was second in the league with 13 home runs. He scored 27 runs, knocked in 29 and he also hit 2 triples for the Mariners. Perfect Game ranked him as the 14th best prospect in the league, while Baseball America named him the 13th best in the league.
Eric recently answered four questions for us.
Summer Ball---Who was your favorite baseball player when you were younger?
Eric Jagielo---I love watching baseball and I can't give you one exact guy I remember, but I would always watch the Cubs. One of my favorite ones to watch now are David Wright, Evan Longoria, and Chase Utley. As a kid, I did enjoy watching Ken Griffey Jr.
SB---What were some of the best things about playing summer ball for the Mariners?
EJ---I would say living out there, it was different from back home. We were really close to the beach so I spent my off days there. Also, the competition was awesome. I got to meet some great players and guys who I am now friends with.
SB---What are your personal goals for this upcoming season?
EJ---I think my personal goals would be to make it to a NCAA Regional and hopefully keep winning till Omaha. I would also like to develop better as a player. I thought I had a good season last year but I want to have an even better one this season.
