Reviewing the 2012 Top 25 Cincinnati Reds Prospect List

Next week I will unveil the 2013 Cincinnati Reds top 25 prospect list, but today, I wanted to review my end of the season Top 25 from last year. 1. Devin Mesoraco Was I right or wrong: I was right. Yes, the 2012 season in the Major Leagues didn’t go nearly as well as you would have hoped. Still, I believe all of the tools are there for him to be an All-Star level catcher and if...

On this day in Reds history: Two general managers resign

Today hasn't been a great day to be an executive of the Cincinnati Reds in years past. Both of those examples come as proof and are derived from Redleg Journal: October 25, 1927 - Citing poor health and deafness, Garry Herrmann resigns as president of the Reds. The 68-year old Herrmann had run the club for 25 years, winning one pennant and finishing first in...

David Bell moves to Chicago; Donald Lutz is AFL Player of the Week

Bell will be trading his Bats jersey in for a Cubs one. It was only a one-year relationship between the Louisville Bats and David Bell as the 2012 manager has joined the coaching staff of the Chicago Cubs as third-base coach. He led the Bats to an awful 51-93 record during the 2012 season, in which the Bats seemed to be severely lacking in talent, in part due to offseason trading...

Javelinas win behind three-run triple from Billy Hamilton

Peoria continued its winning ways on Wednesday afternoon by beating Salt River 7-6. While the Rafters were able to match the Javelinas with eight hits, they fell just one run short in defeat. The Javelinas got big contributions from the three Reds players in the game. -CF Billy Hamilton was 1-5, with a run scored and three RBI (4). He drove in all three runs on a crucial triple...

No. 4: Reds win first playoff game in 17 years

Today marks day nine of the Top 12 Games of the Reds Season series. The campaign may have ended abruptly, and in somber fashion, but there is still plenty to smile about when thinking about the past six months or so. We will be counting down the greatest contests from the year each day until we reach the number one spot. But for now, here is No. 4 on the list: ...

Tuesday news and notes

Baseball America released its Reds 2012 Draft report card (subscription required) yesterday. They had nice things to say about Seth Mejias-Brean and noted his swing change that could lead to power he never showed in college being real. Reds.com has an article up about Billy Hamilton making the transition to center field out in Arizona. Arguably the biggest Reds related news of the...

Javelinas shut out Saguaros

Peoria used seven pitchers Monday night in order to shut out Surprise and get a 3-0 win. The Saguaros were held to just four hits by the Javelinas pitching staff, however none of the Reds pitchers were used in this one. There were a couple of Cincinnati batters in the game though. -CF Billy Hamilton was 1-4, with two strikeouts and is hitting .292. -DH Donald Lutz finished...

Recapping the season of Johnny Cueto

For anyone who thought Johnny Cueto's success in 2011 was merely a fluke, his 2012 campaign did well in proving them wrong. The Dominican right-hander experienced tremendous success once again while anchoring the Reds rotation to their second division title in three years. And although he didn't garner a trip to the All-Star Game, he was definitely deserving of one as he...

Didi Gregorius has nice game in Javelinas loss

Peoria was off on Sunday, but they played Phoenix on Saturday. It was a smashfest as it saw the teams combine for 23 runs on 27 hits. The Javelinas ended up on the wrong end of the score though as the Desert Dogs came up with a 12-11 win. Not many Reds prospects were in the game, but the ones that were made their mark in what time they had. -CF Billy Hamilton came in as a pinch...
