1. Rangers 24-14 -- The Rangers havent had the toughest schedule so far as they climb to the top, but Texas will have a test this week as it heads to Oakland and then comes home for four games against Detroit. 2. Cardinals 24-13 1 Shelby Miller is anchoring an excellent rotation for the Cardinals. The rookie could be on his way to a NL Rookie of the Year award, or even a Cy Young if he can keep playing at this high level for the entire season. 3. Yankees 24-14 6 Not many thought the Yankees would be in this position this season, and that was with a healthy lineup. This team is finding ways to win with good pitching and backups until the regulars can return. 4. Orioles 23-15 4 The Os are showing that last seasons success was no fluke with a strong lineup that is tough to get out even with the best pitcher. Hopefully SP Wei-Yin Chen can avoid the DL after leaving Sundays game early. 5. Giants 23-15 -- The Giants struggled early in the week against the Phillies, but looked strong in taking a four-game series from the Braves. Ryan Vogelsong may be in trouble with his losing record and skyrocketing ERA. 6. Tigers 21-15 -- Two weeks ago, the Tigers looked to be unstoppable; this week was a different story after managing just one win in the past seven days against the Indians and Nationals. 7. Braves 22-16 -3 After starting the season as the leagues hottest team, the Braves have fallen off the cart considerably. Justin Uptons .194 average in the month of May paired with zero home runs isnt helping Atlanta either. 8. Red Sox 22-16 -6 The month of May hasnt been good to the Red Sox so far this year. Boston has had problems keeping opponents from scoring and the news that Joel Hanrahan will be out for the season leaves questions at the closer role. 9. Reds 22-16 4 The Reds put on an offensive show in a sweep against the Brewers, including rookie Donald Lutz, the first German-developed player in the majors, slugging his first home run on Sunday to back rebounding Bronson Arroyo. 10. Nationals 21-17 2 Ross Detwiler has been a nice surprise in the Nationals rotation this season. Too bad Stephen Strasburg hasnt been as dominate as he has been in the past through the first quarter of the long season. 11. Indians 21-16 7 Several surprising teams early this season are falling back to Earth, but the Indians keep on winning, even taking two of three against reigning the AL Champions and division rival Tigers for a tie for first in the AL Central. 12. Pirates 21-17 2 The Pirates are playing well for the time being, but can they keep it up for the entire year? Second baseman Neil Walkers return from the DL should help provide a spark in the lineup in Pittsburgh. 13. Diamondbacks 21-18 2 The D-backs have been impressive through the first quarter of the season, but the bullpen still is having problems coughing up the lead in close games, like in Sundays loss to the Phillies after Brandon McCarthys gem. 14. Royals 19-16 -7 The Royals picked the wrong week to start a slump, managing just one win in series against the surging Orioles and Yankees. A long road trip against struggling AL West opponents could put Kansas City back on track. 15. Rays 19-18 1 Roberto Hernandez, formerly known as Fausto Carmona, is turning around his rough start, helping the Rays complete a sweep against the Padres to get back over .500 for the first time since early April. 16. Rockies 20-18 -6 After dominating the first few weeks of the season, the Rockies have fallen flat since. The offensive production has slowed considerably, including endeavoring through a 28-inning scoreless streak last week. 17. Athletics 20-20 -6 Oakland is another story of a team that started the season hot but has failed to keep winning as the calendar rolled over to May. The bats have gone quiet as the As come away with just one win for the week. 18. Phillies 18-21 3 Phillies appear to be heading in the right direction again. Luckily the team has a rotation anchor in Cliff Lee, who has pitched two straight gems against San Francisco and Arizona while Roy Halladay faces shoulder surgery. 19. Mariners 18-20 3 With Oaklands recent problems, the Mariners are setting themselves up to leap past the As in the AL West race. Next weeks two series against the Yankees and Indians should show if Seattle is for real. 20. Twins 18-17 5 The Twins were thought to be one of the leagues bottom teams heading into the season, but so far Minnesota is holding on with a .500 record into May. But should the AL Centrals other teams be worried yet? 21. Blue Jays 15-24 6 Just when the Blue Jays were starting to get written off by most people, they come away with four impressive wins out of seven on the road, including a five home run slugfest in Boston on Sunday. 22. Brewers 16-20 -5 Nothing much is going right in Milwaukee the Brewers losing streaks are mounting as the pitching staff continues to get hammered against opponents. 23. Mets 14-21 -3 Matt Harveys 4-0 record could be even better if the Mets lineup was able to produce more runs to back the starting pitchers great outings. Until the bats can find their way, the team will continue to underwhelm. 24. Padres 16-21 2 Despite getting swept in Tampa Bay, the Padres were looking to be heading in the right direction earlier in the week as excellent pitching led to a sweep against the offensively weak Marlins. 25. Dodgers 15-22 -6 The Dodgers have invested in several big-name players, but the results arent there to show for it. Hyun-Jin Ryu is doing what he can to hold down the rotation while Zack Greinke is on the DL. 26. Angels 14-24 -3 Like the Dodgers, the Angels should be winning with the players they have, but arent finding ways to do so. Josh Hamilton has yet to turn around his vastly underwhelming start in his first season in Anaheim. 27. White Sox 15-21 -3 The White Sox havent had much to cheer about this season, but Chris Sales nearly perfect, one-hit shutout against the Angels on Sunday is at least one shining beacon. 28. Cubs 16-22 -- Chicago is one of the nations best "baseball towns," but both of the citys teams are failing to deliver. The Cubs are already looking to the future, locking up Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro to long-term deals to build around. 29. Marlins 11-27 -- Same story for the Marlins to explain their lack of wins this season no offensive power to back up what few pitching strengths the team has in Jose Fernandez and Kevin Slowey. 30. Astros 10-29 -- The Astros shook up their roster, designating struggling veterans Philip Humber and Rick Ankiel for assignment and giving the younger players in the organization a chance to get more playing time.
