Terry Collins announced that Ruben Tejada suffered a broken right fibula and will miss the remainder of the season. “Here’s a kid who came back in, tonight the base hit he got to right field, that’s Ruben Tejada, as we’ve known him, as we’ve seen him,” Collins said. “He’s done for the rest of the season. I feel bad for him.” Tejada injured his leg while hustling to catch an Angel Pagan pop-up in shallow left field and colliding with outfielder Andrew Brown with one out in the top of the ninth. Tejada tripped over the sliding Brown, landed hard, and was slow to get up. He went back to short and finished the inning, but was pinch-hit for in the bottom of the ninth. “He caught my trailing leg pretty hard,” Brown said. “I feel really horrible.” The 23-year old shortstop ends the season batting .200/.258/.259 in 57 games. I feel bad for Tejada who has endured a very frustrating season in 2013 that included a strained right quadriceps, a demotion to Triple-A and even some harsh remar

Mets' Ruben Tejada diagnosed with a fractured leg

The New York Mets suffered a tough blow last night.  Shortstop Ruben Tejada was diagnosed with a fractured right fibula.  He had injured himself while getting tangled up with a teammate.  Tejada will, of course, miss the rest of the season. Right fibula broken for Tejada. Wow. — Marc Carig (@MarcCarig) September 19, 2013 For those expecting a gruesome injury here, forget...

Mets Wrap: Josh Satin Delivers Game Winner; Ruben Tejada Fractures Leg

It was a situation Josh Satin has experienced countless times, even before he did so tonight with the New York Mets. “Incredible,’’ Satin said before a crowd of notepads and cameras. “It was one of the moments you kind of dream about, especially for me, a guy who has been in the minor leagues for the better part of five years. SATIN: Comes through in clutch. (AP) “When...

Mets Ruben Tejada Breaks Leg Going After Fly Balll

It has been a long, hard season for the New York Mets, but rather than just coast through the end of the season and start looking to next year there are some guys  that are still playing all out, no-holds-barred baseball. Like Rube Tejada, who will start looking to next season now after breaking his right fibula going after a fly ball Wednesday night. He stayed in the game and...

Ruben Tejada's season of struggles is over, breaks leg Wednesday

Ruben Tejada’s season ended Wednesday night when he broke his right leg chasing a fouled pop up in the ninthh inning of the Mets 5-4 win over the Giants at Citi Field. The Opening Day shortstop who was injured and demoted this season made the play stayed in for the final out of the inning but hobbled off the field with much about his future with this team still in doubt. The Mets...

Collins Wants Tejada To Work Hard and Reclaim The Shortstop Job In 2014

(Updated) One day after Terry Collins announced that Ruben Tejada suffered a broken right fibula and would miss the remainder of the season, he challenged his shortstop to comeback next Spring focused and with some fire in his belly. “My message is real simple: this job is his,” Collins said of next year’s starting shortstop gig. “But he’s got to show everybody that he...

Wilfredo Tovar Won’t Start Tonight, But Available Off Bench

With Ruben Tejada lost for the season due to a broken leg, the Mets have promoted shortstop Wilfredo Tovar. According to today’s media notes, he is not in tonight’s starting lineup, but will be available off the bench to Terry Collins. I had the privilege of enjoying a summer of baseball watching Wilfredo Tovar play shortstop in Binghamton. The knock on Tovar is he’s a prototypical...

Collins Confident Wright Will Return Before Season Ends

It’s a good thing I don’t wager any real money when I write things like “I’d bet anything Wright will be back in the lineup on Tuesday against the Giants.” Yes, it was another egg-in-the-face moment for me and my incessant speculations. Obviously, David Wright was not back in the lineup on Tuesday and according to manager Terry Collins, he probably will not play during...

Stephen Drew may be the best option at shortstop

Now that the season is winding down, it’s important to entertain a few questions about next year’s team.  One unknown which needs to be addressed is the Mets’ shortstop situation.  For the past four months, fans have watched Omar Quintanilla man the position displaying average to below average success.  After Thursday afternoon’s game, Quintanilla has now reached 300...

Wilfredo Tovar to Join Mets in Philadelphia Today

Following the bad break (literally speaking) that Ruben Tejada suffered in the ninth inning of Wednesday night’s comeback victory against the San Francisco Giants, Terry Collins said yesterday the organization will be calling up Wilfredo Tovar to take his place. The news was first reported by Adam Rubin of ESPN New York. The plan for the remainder of the season (which is now less...

Wright Expected To Return This Weekend In Philly

Terry Collins told reporters that he expects David Wright to be activated from the disabled list when the Mets play the Phillies this weekend. Over the weekend I wrote that I’d bet anything Wright would be back in the lineup for the Giants series. Obviously I’m much better off playing mobile slots than I am at betting on when players return from injury. Wright continues...

Goodbye Wilmer Flores, We Hardly Knew Ye

According the ESPN’s Adam Rubin, Terry Collins said that if Wilmer Flores does not make the Mets as a starting player next season, he will return to Triple-A Las Vegas where he can play on a daily basis. SNY media mogul Matt Cerrone chimed in that the decision would be made by another team. It’s unbelievable that a team that is so hard up for position players, would trade one...

Sprinting to the Finish: The Culture of Losing

Six weeks ago, an unidentified Mets executive – and really, how many are there – told Mike Puma of the Post that the front office was pleased with the work of Terry Collins and his staff. Then he said this: “I think they’re doing a good job of sprinting to the finish line.” Sure, if the runner in question is Ramon Castro. The Mets are sprinting nowhere, once again. They’re...

A Shadowy Figure Enters…

I read this funny parody from Mike Kerwick of The Record about a week ago and intended to post about it on MMO, but completely spaced and forgot about it. I just came across it again as I was looking through my favorites folder and I got another laugh out of it. I think you will too.  :-) Location: Manager’s office, Tradition Field, Port St. Lucie, Fla. Date: Feb. 11, 2013 Terry...

Hail Satin, Who Keeps Making A Case For More Playing Time

Josh Satin singled home two runs in the ninth inning to lift the Mets to a 5-4 win. It was Satin’s first career walk-off hit and the Mets’ 10th walk-off win this season. Satin drove in a career-best three runs and finished with two hits and is now batting .300 (45-150) as a starter this season. “That’s one of the moments you kind of dream about, especially me, a guy that’s...
