Freddy Garcia pitched six innings without allowing a hit in his first start of the 2013 season but the Orioles needed extra innings to defeat the Angels on Saturday. Garcia’s final line was 6 2/3 innings in which he allowed two runs on three hits and a walk. The right hander struck out one before being replaced by Darren O’Day. Garcia’s hopes of picking up his first win of the year were dashed when the Angles scored two off of O’Day in the eighth. The Orioles jumped out to a lead in the first inning courtesy of Manny Machado’s fourth home run of the year. An inning later J.J. Hardy hit his fourth. Outfielder Nolan Reimold hit a sac-fly in the fifth to score Machado before hitting a home run in the seventh. Erik Aybar singled to start the seventh inning for the Angles and two batters later Mark Trumbo connected for this eighth home run of the year cutting the Orioles lead in half. In the eighth Hank Conger scored on a ground out and a batter later Trout drove in Scott Cousins to tie ...

The Baltimore Orioles have purchased the contract of veteran starter Freddy Garcia from Triple-A Norfolk. To make room for him Baltimiore has designated pitcher Zach Clark for assignment. Freddy Garcia to Start against the Angels today...

A few weekends ago, I was with some friends at a bar before a NBA playoff game and the conversation turned to the Orioles – specifically, the pitching staff. One of my friends harked, “so do you think Freddy Garcia is going to get a start this year?” At the time, Jake Arrieta had just been optioned to Triple-A. I said, “Unfortunately, yes.” My friend asked...

Swarm of bees delays Angels-Orioles game

The game between the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Thursday at Angel Stadium of Anaheim was briefly delayed due to an alarming number of bees swarming about the ballpark. Order was restored when a grounds crew member dressed up as Winnie the Pooh made off with the bees’ hive and ran off into a nearby forest clearing. No, actually, the grounds crew was involved...

Baltimore fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief, as the knee injury first baseman Chris Davis sustained in Friday's game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim does not appear to be as severe as initially thought. Orioles lose 4-0 to Vargas, Angels

The Baltimore Orioles played right into Jason Vargas' hands, rolling over most of the pitches they put in play and getting just three hits against the Los Angeles Angels lefty. Miguel Gonzalez gave up home runs to Mark Trumbo and Mike Trout before a blister on his thumb forced him out of the game after six innings and 80 pitches. The Orioles grounded into 15 groundball outs...

Tillman Delivers Out West

After splitting their series with the Seattle Mariners, the Baltimore Orioles headed down to Disneyland – ok, Anaheim, California – to face the Los Angeles Angels. The series in Seattle for the Orioles, in my mind, was one they could have easily won if the pitching and defense had held their own; however, they bounced back with a 5-1 win over the Angels. I stayed up...
