Andrew Friedman once again turned down an offer to leave Tampa Bay for a job in a more lucrative market. I read quite often that some team wants Joe Maddon or Friedman, with the thought that wouldn’t they want a job with more resources to build a team. In their current positions, however, both get hailed as miracle workers.
No one really expects them to win. The Tampa Bay fans didn’t show up last season because they didn’t expect the team to win. Somehow, they’ve won two of the last four division titles in the AL East and made the playoffs in three of those years despite having to fight the Yankees and the Red Sox. Why wouldn’t they want to keep winning in a relatively pressure free environment?
