The story of the day, in what has been a slow news week, is Edwin Jackson signing a one-year deal with the Washington Nationals. There are plenty of people out there doing the smart, prudent thing by talking about what this means for the team in 2012, and how a crowded fight for the final spot in the Nationals rotation will work out. Unfortunately, that's not how my mind works. When I think about Edwin Jackson, the first thing I think about is September 9, 2003. While Jackson has proven to be a durable starter with the occasional flash of brilliance, there was a time when he was arguably the best pitching prospect in the game. After pitching and hitting in the complex league during his pro debut, he moved to the mound full time in 2002 and his stock began to explode. He put up a 1.98 ERA in 19 starts f...

Player Profile #94: Stephen Strasburg | SP | WAS

If we learned anything from Jordan Zimmermann‘s 2011 season, it was how the Nationals elect to ease their pitchers back from Tommy John surgery. Zimmermann pitched 161 1/3 innings last season, and we can likely expect the same total from Stephen Strasburg this season. When he does pitch, though, you can be assured of two things: strikeouts and more strikeouts. It will probably...

Do We Need To Start Fearing The Nationals, Could They Win The NL East?

With the Nationals acquisition of Edwin Jackson yesterday, we need to start seriously considering them as legitimate contenders to not only have a good season, but to potentially win the NL East or at minimum steal a wild card berth. With their off season additions the Nationals will have a very well rounded and talented starting rotation.  A rotation of Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez...

When Yahoo News reported Starbucks hiring in the Southern California area, the Dodgers decided to one-up them by signing reliever Todd Coffey to a 1-year $1.3 million.
