Tampa Bay Rays 3 — New York Yankees 5

Another 8 strong innings by CC gets the Yankees the 5-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

In a battle between a pair of the top left-handed starters in the game, CC Sabathia achieved something he had yet to achieve, a win over David Price. In 5 meetings between Sabathia and Price, Sabathia had not won until tonight’s 6th meeting. Defensive mistakes by Eduardo Nunez played a role in the two unearned runs allowed in the 8 innings of work by the Yankees ace left-hander. In his night, he struck out 10 Rays. Rafael Soriano took on the 9th inning closing role in tonight’s game and despite giving up a run, finished up the game and got the save.

In 7 innings from David Price, he gave up 5 runs on 11 hits including 2 home runs. Robinson Cano went 3 for 4 tonight including hitting one of the two home runs deep beyond the Yankees bullpen in right center. In the minds of some Yankees fans, Nunez compensated for his pair of defensive miscues with a perfect night at the plate going 2 for 2 with a walk and 2 stolen bases as well.

Win – CC Sabathia (5-0)

Loss – David Price (5-2)

Save – Rafael Soriano (1)

*Sean Rodriguez – 2 for 3, R, RBI (9)

*Carlos Pena – 1 for 4, RBI (15)

*Robinson Cano – 3 for 4, R, 2-Run Home Run (3) in the 5th, 2 RBI (11)

*Curtis Granderson – 1 for 4, R, Solo Home Run (11) in the 2nd, RBI (20)

Current Yankees Record: 17-14

Joyce’s heroic blast ends up in laughs

It seems that Matt Joyce is okay after hitting the game winning home run Wednesday night against the Yankees.  At least he’s well enough to be made fun of by one of his teammates about an embarrassing moment that occurred while becoming the hero.  Joyce faced a 1-2 count with two outs in the top of the ninth inning, and his team was down by one.  With two men on, Joyce...
