Pirates (20-16) at Mets (14-19) 1:10 PM–Citi Field, New York MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT The Bucs finish this weekend’s series in New York with another afternoon game on Mother’s Day. Be sure to take the advice of the Bucs’ equipment manager today.  Pregame news: Tony Sanchez was not activated from the taxi squad, so Russell Martin‘s injury apparently isn’t serious (although he’s out of the lineup again today). Sanchez will go back to AAA. Charlie Morton will throw a bullpen tomorrow and should resume his rehab assignment soon. Today’s starters… Jeanmar Gomez (2-0, 2.38) vs. Matt Harvey (4-0, 1.28) Gomez is probably going to be the fifth starter until Charlie Morton is ready, which could be another week or so. In his first two starts he’s been serviceable, and in his last one he was excellent…and was lifted after just five innings for no good reason. Gomez is basically destined to land back in the long relief role eventually, but for now I have no problem with him starting temporarily. The Mets have a struggling offense much like the Mariners team he faced earlier in the week, so he should be able to keep the Bucs in the game. That said, the Pirate offense is going to have a very difficult time against Harvey, who has been the best pitcher in the NL so far this year. The 24-year-old righty has been sensational and is coming off a one-hit shutout (an infield hit away from a perfect game). He throws a 95+ MPH fastball with good off-speed stuff and appears to be the whole package and the future of the Mets pitching staff.
