Saturday’s game looked like a win for the Miami Marlins entering the ninth with a three run lead but the end result was a 5-4 Houston Astros victory.   Heath Bell blew his second save in as many chances and Logan Morrison committed an error in the worst inning the Marlins have taken part in this season.   The loss dropped the Marlins to 3-6 on the year.

Carlos Zambrano had a shaky first inning for the second start in a row but then settled in to go six.   It was a start reminiscent of his first and the result was the same as he was in line for the victory until the blown save in the ninth.   Zambrano only allowed four hits but he walked six while striking out one.  The veteran was able to escape jams and only allowed one run.   A day after nearly everyone in the pen saw action, it was a similar scenario in this one.    Steve Cishek and Edward Mujica worked two scoreless innings to each earn their third hold.   In the ninth however, Bell was unable to fool the Astros’ hitters.   Houston was down to their final strike at one point but managed to plate four runs on four hits against Bell.   Only two of those runs were earned and the winning run scored on the Morrison dropped fly ball after Bell was lifted.   The All-Star closer is now 0-2 and has looked shaky in all but one appearance.

Most of the Marlins’ offense came in the third inning three runs came in to give the Fish the lead that they held until the ninth.    Hanley Ramirez was 3-4 with a run batted in for his best day of the season.   It wasn’t all bad for Morrison who did have two runs batted in prior to his error in the ninth.    Donnie Murphy who was filling in for an injured Omar Infante went 0-2 but did make a fine diving play while in the field.   Infante had tightness in his groin and is day-to-day.

The Marlins will look to win their first series of the year on Sunday when they send Anibal Sanchez to the mound to take on J.A. Happ.
