Found August 24, 2012 on 213 Miles From Shea:

Well that last series wasn’t fun. There have only been two teams worse than the Mets since the All-Star break and that would be the Indians and the Astros, and guess who is coming to town. Seriously though, the Mets could use some wins here and they will try to do that behind Jon Niese as the Mets bats take on Jordan Lyles.

Jon Niese is 10-6 this season over 24 games and 152.0 innings with an ERA of 3.49. He has had two good starts in a row pitching a total of 15.1 innings while allowing only one earned runs with 13 strikeouts. One of his worst starts this season was against the Astros as he allowed 5 ER over 3 innings of work. The Astros have the following numbers against Niese:

Francisco 4-14
Wallace 2-5
Greene 0-3
Castro 0-3
Snyder 1-3, HR
Altuve 1-2

Jordan Lyles is 2-10 this season with a 5.70 ERA over 18 games and 102.2 innings. In the month of August, Jordan has made 4 starts with an ERA of 6.26. Jordan has never faced the Mets and the only Mets who have seen him is Torres who is 0-2.

Let’s Go Mets!

McHugh tosses 7 scoreless frames in debut; Rewarded with a no-decision

Making his major league debut on Thursday afternoon, New York Mets starter Collin McHugh allowed two hits and a walk, while fanning nine batters over seven scoreless frames.  His efforts, however, were rewarded with a no-decision.  Surprise. Surprise. Unfortunately for McHugh, a misplay by Jordany Valdespin in centerfield led to the games only run as the last place Colorado Rockies...

HYPE files: Wilfredo Tovar

Why the hype? Wilfredo Tovar, SS: Tovar is the type of prospect that divides minor league followers. Some think he will be a great defensive shortstop who will hit enough to play every day while some think he will be a great defensive shortstop and that is it. At least most everyone will agree his defense could be gold glove caliber one day which is why he is regarded as a legit...

Mets second-half fade nothing new for year ending in “2″

Before the season started, I dismissed those who claimed the Mets could lose 100 games in 2012. But after getting swept in a four-game series at home by a beat-up Rockies team, I am no longer so sure. The Mets still need to win six games the rest of the way and at this point, I’m not sure they can do it. The GM quit on the team in July and the rest of the squad has followed...

Game Preview: Rockies @ Mets

The Mets try to avoid the four game sweep today as they take on the Rockies in an afternoon game. Tyler Chatwood will get the start for the Rockies today as Collin McHugh will be making his major league debut. McHugh, who has been described as Gee-esque, 7-9 over 143.2 innings this season in two minor leagues. In that stretch he has an ERA of 2.88, a WHIP of 1.143 and a K/9 of 8...

Mets Host Astros For Three-Game Set BY

The New York Mets and Houston Astros haven’t had the season they were hoping for. It’s not that either team was really planning on being a World Series contender but both young squads were hoping to show some progress. As the two teams prepare for a three-game set over the weekend, the Mets find themselves in fourth in the National League East while the Astros have the worst...

Late 12th Inning Run Off Nitkowski Leads To 4-3 Defeat For Buffalo

Two runs in the 7th inning off Garrett Olson led to a extra inning affair for the Buffalo Bisons and a late run off CJ Nitkowski in the 12th inning led to defeat as the Bisons fell 4-3 to Scranton Thursday night in Buffalo. The Bisons scored an early run in the 1st inning with a leadoff double for Fred Lewis and an RBI single for Brad Emaus to score Lewis and give Buffalo a 1-0 lead...

Back injury ends season for Mets' Santana

Knowing they have little left to play for this season, the Mets shut down Johan Santana for the stretch run Thursday, placing him on the disabled list with inflammation in his lower back. Santana first felt the discomfort flare up after his last start, in which he gave up six runs in five innings. Earlier this week, he underwent an MRI, which revealed the inflammation. So the Mets...

Perception meets Reality: Mets look like they have thrown in the towel

After Tuesday’s night’s 6-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies, Terry Collins was steaming mad at the effort the Mets put forth and uttered what many of us were thinking when he said the following to reporters: “Perception is reality. And when you sit on the outside and you watch a game like tonight, perception is, ‘they’ve packed it in.’ I won’t stand for it. I believe in...

Mets 101 News and Notes: Could Johan Santana Be Done for the Season?

As the New York Mets continue their slow march to the end of the regular season, one troubling trend that can't be ignored is the sudden decline of Mets starter Johan Santana. Santana, who delivered what looks to be the apex of the 2012 season with his no hitter on June 1st, has fallen into a tailspin since that game. Santana's ERA since his no hitter is...

Mets 3, Astros 1

R.A. Dickey helped his own cause for his 16th victory, driving in a run with an infield single and pitching seven solid innings Saturday as the New York Mets ended a six-game skid by beating the Houston Astros 3-1. Justin Turner hit his first homer of the season and Jason Bay snapped an 0-for-14 slump with an RBI single in the eighth to end a stretch of offensive futility for the...

Mike Francesa channels former partner Chris Russo with psychotic rant

Yesterday on WFAN in New York, Mike Francesa went on one of the best radio rants you'll ever hear about the current pathetic state of the New York Mets.  I've never heard anything this crazed and sustained over ten minutes from Francesa as he tears into the team and compares manager Terry Collins to Rich Kotite.  Ouch.  Somebody must have spiked Francesa's...

Astros 3, Mets 1

Astros 3, Mets 1. By MIKE FITZPATRICK AP Sports Writer Jordan Lyles won for the first time in two months and the Houston Astros snapped a seven-game skid Friday night with a 3-1 victory over the sluggish New York Mets, giving Tony DeFrancesco his first win as a major league manager. Tyler Greene homered and Lyles knocked in a run with his first career double as the Astros (40-86...

McHugh impressive in debut, but Mets lose 5th straight

NEW YORK -- Collin McHugh couldn't get enough help from his offense, and the New York Mets bullpen didn't get the assistance it needed from its defense. So, for the second straight game, a Mets rookie starter dominated the Colorado Rockies, only to have the Rockies push the winning run across against the bullpen. This time, McHugh made an impressive first impression in...
