New York Mets
The New York Mets (17-13) will look to sweep the Phialdelphia Phillies (14-17) at Citizens Bank Park tonight for the first time since 2006 in a game that could set a new high-water mark for the club.Dillon Gee (2-2, 4.50 ERA)
will take the mound in a park that he has faired terribly in thus far in his career, posting a 10.22 ERA in 12 1/3 innings through two starts and relief appearance. While the numbers are slightly skewed from a grand slam that he allowed to Ryan Howard in a terrible relief outing, Gee must post a quality start tonight if the Mets are to have a chance against the returning Roy Halladay. The good news for Gee is that he'll be facing a lineup that doesn't include Ryan Howard and Chase Utley, but the Phillies offense can still be scrappy.Cliff Lee (0-1, 1.96 ERA)
is still unquestionably one of the greatest pitchers of the generation, especially when opposing the New York Mets. Lee has shut down the Mets in all four of his career starts, posting a 1.64 ERA and a 0.964 WHIP in 28 innings. Lee will be returning from a trip to the disabled list and will be on a limited pitch count, but his return comes on the heels of a masterful performance in which he pitched 10 shutout innings against San Francisco and still suffered a no-decision.
The Mets will be resting several of their key players tonight, including Kirk Nieuwenhuis
, who played a huge role in last night's comeback victory. Scott Hairston will get the start in right field while Vinny Rottino will make his first start of the season in left. In addition, Jordany Valdespin will also sit as Justin Turner makes his second start in three days in replacing Ruben Tejada at short.New York Mets Starting Lineup:
1. Andres Torres CF
2. Daniel Murphy 2B
3. David Wright 3B
4. Scott Hairston RF
5. Vinny Rottino LF
6. Justin Turner SS
7. Ike Davis 1B
8. Rob Johnson C

BEST OF MAXIM
Jenrry Mejia pitched solidly today for St. Lucie as they beat Brevard County by the score of 4-2.
The Mets’ one-time top prospect tossed five innings and allowed just two runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Mejia’s fastball ranged between 91-95 mph, but more importantly he felt good afterward in what was his first major hurdle toward his return to the majors...
Rookie Jordany Valdespin delivers a pinch hit three-run homer to put the Mets up 5-3.
Jon Niese had himself another good start despite only going five innings and being plagued with four walks. He gave up two runs in the first two innings, but was able to throw zeroes until he was taken out for a pinch hitter. Niese needs to stay in the game. He goes five innings, allowing...

The Week That Was: April 30th – May 7th
The B-Mets went 2-5 over the past week, losing both their series in Akron against the Aeros and at home against the Harrisburg Senators. Three of the five games they lost were only by one run. The Mets fell below .500 and slid in the standings from third to fourth place. The big news on the...
I know it’s early, but the promising start to the 2012 campaign for Mets former top prospect Wilmer Flores is extremely encouraging. He was ranked at the top of the organization in recent years due to his hitting ability and future potential, but did not live up to the hype on the field. So far this season he is showing that maybe all that talk of him being a big time hitter...
The New York Mets have put catcher Josh Thole on the seven-day disabled list because of a concussion.
The Mets made the move before Tuesday night's game at Philadelphia and promoted catcher Rob Johnson from Triple-A Buffalo.
Thole was elbowed in the head by Ty Wigginton of the Phillies during a play at the plate in the Mets' 5-2 win Monday night.
Thole had returned to...
Miguel Batista did little to solve the problem that is Mike Pelfrey’s absence from the rotation, but the Mets overcame a slow start tonight to defeat the Phillies once again 7-4.
Trailing 4-1 entering the seventh, New York got to work when last night’s hero Jordany Valdespin got on base with a lead-off walk against Phillies starter Joe Blanton. However, Blanton would get catcher...
The Mets are playing these days without their starting shortstop, Ruben Tejada, who is sidelined because of a strained right groin. They also are playing without their starting catcher, Josh Thole, who has a concussion. They are playing without their starting left fielder, Jason Bay, who is recovering from a fractured left rib. And they are playing without one of their starting...
What am I doing here, on a grimy pier in lower Manhattan at 5 am? That’s a very good question. Just because I get a cryptic message from someone claiming to be JetsMets13, who says he has proof that a renegade Mets blog is conspiring to sell Mets secrets on the black market. The guy says this “rogue Mets blogger is huge”, and that everybody knows him, and that it could be...
Good News, Bad News. Mets bounce back after The Houston hell trip and take 2 out of 3 from the D'backs on the brief homestand. With another great start Dickey goes 4-1 on the season. That's good news...the bad, Ruben Tejada took a soil sample with his face when strained his quad. Check out the link below for a full game recap. Happy Sunday Blobbers!
Following Monday night’s thrilling win, set off by the three-run bomb by #TeamValdespin, the Mets send Miguel Batista to the mound this evening looking to take the series and extend their winning streak to four games. Pray for Rain.
When a team goes into a game on a losing streak, it’s said they’re looking for their start to be a stopper. I anticipate Batista to have the opposite...
Mets 7 – Phillies 4TERRY COLLINS ON TONIGHT’S VICTORY“Let me tell you something…tonight’s game was a good win. A good victory for the team, for the guys and for me. The young guys learned that they can comeback at anytime and win a ball game. And that’s huge, huge. You play 9 innings for a reason and my guys did just that and I’m proud of them. For me tonight’s game...
I don’t know if you noticed (how could you not?) but it seems like every time a young player does something positive, we see discussions here, and even on WFAN yesterday regarding which GM brought that player to the Mets.
First, as I’ve said here I think Minaya did a better job than most give him credit for. Second, let us please stop pretending that Alderson has been here for...
PHILADELPHIA -- The New York Mets, who have made a habit of late-inning heroics so far this season, struck again Tuesday night, scoring all of their runs in the last three frames to beat the last-place Philadelphia Phillies 7-4. The Mets (17-13), who erased a 4-0 deficit, won their fourth straight game and came from behind to earn a victory for the 10th time this season. On Monday...
