Starting Pitchers:

RHP R.A. Dickey (5-1, 3.75 ERA) will take the hill for the Mets.

RHP James McDonald (3-2, 2.68 ERA) will take the hill for the Pirates.

Game Notes:

  • The Mets’ series against the Pirates should be a series they should win. Santana, Dickey, and Niese are the best pitchers on the team, and they’re pitching against the Pirates. The Mets need to beat the Pirates tonight.
  • Mike Baxter is leading off? Kirk hasn’t been playing very well recently, but Baxter is not a leadoff hitter. I’d bat Kirk first and Baxter second. Terry obviously knows way more about baseball than me, so maybe Baxter is the right guy to leadoff. He’s definitely a better option in the leadoff spot than Cedeño.
  • MIKE NICKEAS NEEDS TO GET A HIT OR TWO!
  • Ike Davis… Homerun? Maybe?
  • Let’s Go Mets!

Baxter Bats Leadoff As Mets Try To Rebound After Terrible Loss: Mets Lineup Vs. Pirates

Mike Baxter is being rewarded for his solid play and is not only starting tonight, but is batting leadoff. Baxter, who is hitting .390 with 7 doubles and 8 RBI. Ike Davis will get the start at 1B, and looks to finally break out of this season long slump. There has been a lot of chatter about sending Fearless down to Buffalo, but Collins is trying to be patient with his first baseman. RA Dickey

R.A. Dickey with another R.A.Diculous performance

Last night, R.A. Dickey limited the Pittsburgh Pirates to one run on five hits while recording a career high 11 punch outs over seven innings of work; improving to 6-1 in the process: #bbpBox_205133628873768960 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_205133628873768960 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } #Mets @RADickey43 now tied for the NL lead in wins with six...

Arr, Dickey Stifles The Pirates In A Swashbucklin’ 3-2 Victory Over The Pirates

Dickey probably could have gone the entire game tonight the way he was dealing – 7 dominant innings led the Mets to a 3-2 victory. Summary I have come to the conclusion that I need to see as many of Tricky Dick’s games as I possibly can, because this man can seriously pitch. R.A. started tonight and was foolishly removed after 7 innings (I will get to that in a short while) after...

Baxter collects three hits as Mets hold off Blue Jays, 6-5

The New York Mets defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon to move three games above .500, 22-19: Dillon Gee started for New York, allowing three runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings of work, improving to 3-3 on the year: Given a four run lead, Gee allowed runs in the second and third innings — including a solo blast by Jose Bautista — before retiring eight of the...

Dickey Wants An Extension, But Shouldn’t Wright Get One First?

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, R.A. Dickey would like the front office to pick up his $5 million dollar option for 2013 and begin negotiating a contract extension, saying: “I like it here and I want to be here. I feel like the team is moving in the right direction, and I want to be a part of the solution. Now it’s up to them. If I’m in their plans, [a contract...

Dickey shuts down Pirates in best effort of season

R.A. Dickey is the first to admit that cold weather hurts his knuckleball, which is why his numbers last year were significantly better beginning in mid-May. When the weather grows warmer, Dickey tends to thrive. Consider Tuesday a perfect example of that trend. Dickey delivered his most dominant performance of the season, striking out 11 batters over seven innings of the New York...

Pre Game: New York Mets (22-20) at Pittsburgh Pirates (20-22)

After dropping the first game of the series in true #LOLMets fashion, the Mets look to even it up tonight as they send R.A. Dickey to the hill against the Pittsburgh Pirates. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and the game can be seen on SNY or heard, as always, on WFAN 660AM.  Join the conversation on Twitter by following @dailystache or yours truly, @DevOnSports. Mets 3, Pirates 2

Lucas Duda smacked a go-ahead RBI-single in the top of the eighth in support of starter R.A. Dickey and the New York Mets edged the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1 on Tuesday night. Dickey (6-1) struck out a career-high 11 in seven innings, giving up one run on four hits to move into a tie with a host of others for the most wins in the majors. Frank Francisco pitched the ninth for his 11th...

Mets' outfield error leads to Pirates victory

PITTSBURGH -- Outfielders Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Mike Baxter entered the game in the eighth inning and made an immediate impact. Too bad for the New York Mets, it was a negative impact and helped Pittsburgh beat the Mets 5-4 on Monday. Nieuwenhuis, the center fielder, nearly collided with Baxter, the left fielder, while trying to catch Neil Walker's flyball to the gap in left...

Errors Galore In Ugly 5-4 Mets Loss To Bucs

Yuck, this loss was U-G-L-Y! The Mets jumped to an early 4-0 lead with their ace Johan Santana on the mound and looking pretty good. It was supposed to be a recipe for success, but it ended up being a recipe for disaster instead. The Mets committed three errors in the game including two by David Wright, but it was the botched fly ball in the eighth inning that led to this latest...

Andres Torres mired in a tough slump

With the score tied at 1-1, New York Mets manager Terry Collins opted to pinch hit for starter R.A. Dickey — who had thrown just 88 pitches — to begin the top of the eighth inning.  Collins called upon Andres Torres and while it took eight pitches, the end result for Torres’ at-bat was a strike out. #bbpBox_205123331861651456 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_20512333186165...
