Found September 15, 2012 on Monkey with a Halo:

I remember as a kid it seemed a lot of Angels season's died in mid August in Kansas City. The Halos would be clinging to faint playoff hopes only to see them dashed in hot summer nights in the midwest. Weird games always happen in KC with the Angels usually ending up on the wrong side of the weirdness. Tonight the Halos visit Kansas City for a crucial three game series. With Balitmore and Oakland facing each other, wins mean advancing up the wild card ladder no matter what happens. So time will tell if another season's death rattle comes from the Kansas City blues. But not tonight...

Angels 9 Royals 7

Game Notes

-- Looks like we have to add a fourth season to CJ Wilson's schizo beahvior. Wilson continues to rack up pitch counts costing him any hope of going late into games. You would think a former reliever would be economical with his pitches but Wilson barely made 5 innings, which in turn threw the bullpen into the equation.

-- Who would have ever thought that the Albert that is the clutch hitter for the Angels would be Alberto Callaspo not Albert Pujols. All lil' Albert does is get big base hits.

-- We bag on Mike Scioscia for his sometimes curious line-up contruction but tonight's move of Aybar to the 2 hole was magnificent. Erick went 4 for 5 and with him and Trout on base, the offense was able to keep battling back.

Halo Hero

Anyone else thought this game was over before Kendrys stepped in to save the day? Let me posit another frightening thought, what would have happened if Maicer had been available? Think Morales still gets to hit right handed in that situation? Sometimes fate works in your favor and Kendrys was able to hit and did tie it up with a two run bomb and keep the Angels hopes alive. That's Halo Hero material in my book.

DeidrePujols gives birth to daughter

Albert Pujols summer just got a little bit better. Pujols wife Deidre gave birth to the couples fifth child, a daughter, at 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning, the Angels announced. Daughter Esther Grace weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and measured 19 inches long. Pujols attended the birth, which followed the Angels 3-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals and was back at the ballpark in time for...

Mike Trout Should Win American League MVP Regardless of Rookie Status, Whether Angels Make Playoffs

Mike Trout is going to become the first player since Ichiro Suzuki in 2001 to win the Most Valuable Player and the Rookie of the Year in the same season. That is, if the voters don't get in the way. Trout has played at an insanely high level this season, both offensively and defensively, and he didn't even start the year on Los Angeles' 25-man roster. Trout made his 2012...

Weaver's return provides major boost to Angels

The Los Angeles Angels got their ace back Thursday afternoon. It wasn't just that Jered Weaver returned to the rotation after 10 days due to biceps tendinitis. It was the Weaver they got back -- the one who went 15-1 with a 2.13 ERA in his first 20 starts this season. While pitching with the discomfort in his arm, which he described as a "bite," Weaver was 1-3 with...

Weaver, Angels shutout red-hot A's

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Jered Weaver pitched two-hit ball over seven innings, Torii Hunter homered and added an RBI single in a six-run seventh, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Oakland Athletics 6-0 on Thursday to avoid a four-game sweep. Weaver (17-4) struck out nine in his first start since skipping a turn in the rotation because of biceps tendinitis after was struck on his...

How Trumbo can get his groove back

Roller coasters are supposed to be fun. Their steel structures stand tall against the backdrop of the sky, and as they barrel down their pre-determined course, one can hear children screaming in delight through ups, downs, loops, switches and unexpected twists and turns. Playoff race roller coasters are not so fun. It’s easy to be pessimistic and write off the Angels...

Angels-Royals Preview

The Los Angeles Angels hope C.J. Wilson can continue to pitch well and help his team begin a run in the positive direction. That's if they can improve their recent play in Kansas City. The left-hander tries to win a fourth consecutive start Friday night when the Angels open a three-game series against the Royals. Wilson (12-9, 3.69 ERA) has posted a 2.41 ERA while winning...

Game Recap 9/13/12: Off the ledge - Angels 6, Athletics 0

One way or another, Angels fans were going to take a step off the ledge following today's game.  But instead of stepping forward to a big plat-induced demise as I am sure many distraught followers expected, they got to calmly and cooly step backwards, off the ledge and onto stable ground.  Sweet, sweet stable ground. Naturally., it was Jered Weaver stepping in to save...

Royals 3, Angels 2

Ernesto Frieri needed just four pitches to ruin a spectacular start by Zack Greinke, giving up two home runs in the ninth inning as the Kansas City Royals rallied to hand the playoff-contending Los Angeles Angels a stunning 3-2 loss on Saturday night. Frieri (3-1) replaced Greinke with one out in the ninth after Alex Gordon singled. Billy Butler homered to center on Frieri's...

Game Recap 9/15/12 -- Gut Shot -- Angels 2 Royals 3

This being a family website I will try to refrain from swearing in a long, comma laden string of profanity over tonight's game. If the Angels don't make the playoffs there will be a lot of reasons why. The terrible start highlighted by Albert Pujols worst month as a professional ballplayer. The inconsistent seasons by the vaunted starting rotation. The stubborn refusal...
