Cardinals (9-4) at Pirates (5-7)

7:05 PM EST–PNC Park, Pittsburgh

Here is the MLB.com Gameday

TV: none in Pittsburgh // Radio: 93.7

The Pirates are finally back home tonight and will finally meet their first divisional opponent tonight when they play the Cardinals.

No TV in Pittsburgh tonight because of the Pens. If you’re around, go to the game and get yourself a lovely free T-shirt.

About the Cardinals:

They lost Albert Pujols (and manager Tony LaRussa), but the defending champs have picked up where they left off and are out to a great 9-4 start. They were my pick to win the division and are playing well despite a number of injuries.  Carlos Beltran (who thought he was too good to be traded to the Pirates last year and should be booed this weekend) has provided a big boost to the offense (.333, 5 HR) and the entire pitching staff has been lights-out. On the bright side for the Bucs, the Cards will be without notorious Pirate-killer Lance Berkman for the weekend, as he just hit the DL.

Tonight’s starters…

Lance Lynn (2-0, 1.50) vs. Charlie Morton (0-0, 5.40)

Lynn, who was famously part of a hilarious bullpen phone mixup during the World Series, has been converted to a starter this season and is pitching brilliantly. Chris Carpenter is on the shelf and the Pirates will miss Adam Wainwright this weekend, but all three St. Louis starters the Bucs will see have been throwing the ball extremely well.

Charlie had a decent season debut against the Giants (5 innings, 3 runs). It wasn’t a terrible outing considering it was his first start coming off an injury and the Giants stacked the deck with all lefties. We’ll see if he can go deeper in to the game and provide the Bucs with their first quality start in a while.
