Philadelphia Phillies (33-37) vs. Colorado Rockies (25-42)
Cliff Lee (1-5, 3.98) vs. Christian Friedrich (4-6, 5.98)
Time: 8:40, Coors Field

The second half of the season is underway! In recent history, the Phillies have been known to be a second half team. They have to start playing good baseball immediately if they want any shot at getting into the postseason. Playing against the Rockies could be a good start, especially since the Rockies have a worse record than the Phillies.
Cliff Lee is coming off his first win of the year. Lee needs to put his first half behind, and put together a nice streak of wins. Lee will be opposed by rookie Christian Friedrich, who has struggled in most of his starts.
The Rockies are without Troy Tulowitzki, who had surgery in mid-June. However, All Star Carlos Gonzalez is having a tremendous year, batting .330 with a .967 OPS. In addition, Todd Helton is always a threat.

Phillies outfielder Juan Pierre has never been a power hitter in his career. With just 17 career home runs in his 13-year career, Pierre has always been noted as a singles hitter and speed demon on the base paths. Pierre played at the height of his career during the steroid era of baseball. In an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pierre talked about how he has played the...
For nearly three months, the battle cry surrounding the Philadelphia Phillies was this: Just wait until Chase Utley and Ryan Howard are back.
Well, they're here and the Phillies can't win with them.
They've lost 10 of 11 since Utley, the five-time All-Star second baseman, made his season debut on June 27. They lost three straight games after Howard, the former NL MVP...
Well, at least it wasn't someone TOO important. The latest 2012 Phillies casualty to the disabled list is left-handed reliever Raul Valdes. Valdes has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip strain, and left-handed reliever Joe Savery has been recalled from AAA Lehigh Valley to take his place.
Valdes has been moderately effective, going 2-2 with a 3.80...
The Phillies had one of their first halves in ten years, going 37-50 headed into the All-Star Break. Well it's only been four days since they played, but I'm sick and tired of seeing this team playing like crap as well as being sick and tired of being negative about this team. So for the beginning of this second half I am going to be positive about this team because it...
Jeremy Guthrie won't be around long.Jeremy Guthrie made his first start for the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field since being demoted, then coming back to the starting rotation on Saturday night.Despite working out of the bullpen at home since his last start on June 12th, the results were the same for the biggest offseason disappointment in recent years for the Rockies. The Rockies...

Vance Worley (4-5, 3.54) vs. Jeremy Guthrie (3-8, 6.05)

Vance Worley will try to get the Phillies their first win after the All Star break when he takes the mound tonight in Colorado. Though Worley has excellent career numbers against the Rockies (2.25...
I know this is a week old, but I used the All-Star Break to, well, take a break. I think with a 37-50 first half, we all needed a break.
Anyway, before the unsettling finish to the Phillies' 5-0 loss to the Braves last Friday, Ryan Howard made a triumphant return.
I was standing behind section 130 and was able to get this picture (above), which...
Final: Phillies 8, Rockies 5.
WP: Vance Worley (5-5, 3.47 ERA)
LP: Jeremy Guthrie (3-9, 6.14 ERA)
SV: Jonathan Papelbon (19)
For just the second time in the month of July, the Philadelphia Phillies have won a baseball game. Starter Vance Worley lasted six and two-thirds innings, as he gave up eight hits and just two earned runs.
Jonathan Papelbon came into the game in the eight...

The Phillies were looking for a quality start from Vance Worley tonight to snap out of their five-game losing streak. Impatient at-bats last night led to a 6-2 loss, and a terrible way to kick off the second half of the season.
Thankfully, an outburst of offense gave the Phillies a 4-0 lead in the first inning. First, Chase Utley singled to left...
On Friday, two players that could potentially provide some help to the big league Phillies roster this season were in action with the organization’s Gulf Coast League club, rehabbing their injuries. Right-handed reliever Justin De Fratus (elbow strain) and outfielder Domonic Brown (knee sprain) both looked good in their efforts down Florida.
De Fratus, who threw a scoreless...
The Phillies are starting the second-half of their season on the field Friday night in Colorado. They may also be starting - or ending - a major chapter in their history off the field with an offer to Cole Hamels.
Vance Worley pitched into the seventh inning and hit a two-run double, Carlos Ruiz added a three-run homer, and the Philadelphia Phillies hung on to beat the Colorado Rockies 8-5 Saturday night to snap a five-game losing streak.
Worley (5-5) allowed two runs on eight hits in 6 2-3 innings. He struck out two and walked two, worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and benefited...
Despite his team's current state, Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel - at least publicly - believes the Phillies can turn things around after the All-Star break.
Cliff Lee hopes to build on his first win of the season - his team's lone victory in its last 11 games - as he and the Phillies look to continue their recent success against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field...
In the past couple of weeks there has been a lot of rumors surrounding left handed pitcher Cole Hamels. It's been said that the Phillies, in case they become sellers, could deal him as long as they can't sign him to a long-term deal.
Yesterday, Jayson Stark of ESPN.com said that the Phillies are preparing a “substantial offer” to Hamels to see if they can sign him in...
