ON THE MOUND:
Chad Gaudin pitched 6 2/3 effective innings in leading the Yankees to an 8-2 win over the Royals. He allowed nothing more than Mark Teahen's solo homer in the fifth inning and Mike Jacobs' sacrifice fly in the sixth. In the longest outing of his young Yankees career, Gaudin struck out five and walked two. Gaudin received a standing ovation as he walked off the mound with two outs in the seventh.
Damaso Marte faced a batter and retired him.
Alfredo Aceves pitched 2 scoreless and struck out 1.
THE OFFENSE:
The bombers got on board on a home run by Ramiro Pena -- the first of his Major League career -- and run-scoring singles from Eric Hinske and Shelley Duncan. Playing with just three regulars in the starting lineup, the Yankees tagged Royals starter Luke Hochevar for 12 hits in six-plus innings.
Pena added an RBI single off Hochevar in the seventh before Robinson Cano launched his second career grand slam over the wall in right-center, helping the Yankees to their sixth straight victory.
