Dillon Gee finished off the New York Mets' most unexpected Subway Series sweep. Gee struck out a career-high 12 and limited the Yankees to four hits over 7 1/3 innings Thursday night in a 3-1 win that gave the Mets a four-game season sweep of their city rival. Marlon Byrd had a two-run, second-deck homer in the second off rookie Vidal Nuno (1-2), John Buck hit a slow-rolling RBI single off third base in the eighth and Gee made that stand up against the Yankees, who totaled just seven runs in the four games. Since the start of interleague play in 1997, the only sweep had been by the Yankees, when they went 6-0 in 2003.

Gee Shines In Mets 3-1 Victory Over Yankees To Complete Subway Series Sweep!

In stunning fashion, Dillon Gee and the New York Mets beat the New York Yankees by the score of 3-1 tonight at Yankee Stadium to complete their first ever Subway Series sweep. Wow, what a performance by Dillon Gee who pitched the game of his life tonight against the Yankees. The righthander held the Bronx Bombers to just one run on four hits, walked none, and struck out a career...

Mets Wrap, May 30: Dillon Gee Fans 12 Yankees

Pitching with his spot in the rotation on the line, Dillon Gee was magnificent as he struck out 12 and retired the last 15 hitters to carry the Mets to a 3-1 victory Thursday night over the Yankees. With the win, the Mets won consecutive two-game series and five straight games overall. After being 12 games under .500, the Mets are now 22-29. GEE: Makes rotation statement. ON THE...

Dillon Gee turns in his strongest outing of the season, leads Mets over Yankees 3-1

Prior to Thursday night’s contest versus the Yankees, New York Mets manager Terry Collins admitted Dillon Gee‘s rotation spot could be in jeopardy when Zack Wheeler gets his promotion. “I’m not stupid,” Gee told reporters. “I know that many bad outings in a row, you’re probably hanging on by a thread there.” With a Wheeler promotion most likely slated for mid-June...

Dillon Gee Pitching For Rotation Spot; Jon Niese Scratched

At one time, the Mets could count on Dillon Gee giving them five innings. They weren’t always pretty, but at least there was length. Not so much anymore. In ten starts this spring, he’s produced one quality start and only three times worked into the sixth or longer. At 2-6 with a 6.34 ERA, and Jeremy Hefner pitching well and Shaun Marcum too expensive to option, Gee is pitching...

Collin McHugh’s Start Means Survival

When Dillon Gee cracked the New York Mets’ major league roster in September 20110, there weren’t many who saw him as a permanent fixture in a starting rotation. Scouts yelled that he had the potential to be a number five starter on a mediocre team, but for a team that wished to contend he’d be best served as a long reliever or spot starter. Gee proved many scouts wrong over...

Collins Pulling Gee Was A Mistake That Didn’t End Up Hurting The Team

Updated with thoughts by Joe D. on 5/31 When Terry Collins removed Dillon Gee in the eighth inning last night after registering one out, I like everyone else who were interacting on Twitter busted a gasket. Here was Gee, pitching the game of his life and in the midst of retiring 15 consecutive batters – including the last five via a strikeout – and Collins decided to pull him...

Game Chatter: Dillon Gee vs. Vidal Nuno (5/30/13)

Yesterday we mentioned the “Terrible Trio” and how John Buck, Ike Davis and Ruben Tejada were acting as sinkholes for the lineup.  Tonight, two of the three are not starting and who knows – maybe this will be the day Davis ends his 29-game, 105-PA homer-less drought. Terry Collins Can’t Continue to Baby Pitchers

The New York Mets had a historic series against their crosstown rivals this week, accomplishing a feat that hadn’t been done since 1900: Their pitchers struck out 34 New York Yankees without surrendering a walk. Dillon Gee took the mound on Thursday afternoon to look to complete the series sweep and make a statement that he belongs in the starting rotation beyond Zack Wheeler...

Can the Mets Pitching Staff Build on this Current Win Streak?

Is this a mirage, are we actually witnessing something special happening with this Mets team. Have they woken up from their hibernation? We know not to expect anything special with this group this season, but what just happened this week, is somewhat confusing. Did it take for the Yankees to come into town for the Mets to finally start playing winning baseball? Was it the aura of...

Yankees game 52 lineup: 5/30/13

Photo Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports The Yankees look to salvage the final game of this year’s Subway Series tonight, as Vidal Nuno gets the start against Dillon Gee. Yesterday’s easy win for the Mets secured just their third season-series win against the Yankees – 2003 and 2008 were the other years. The Bronx Bombers want to get back on the winning track after losing...
