Philadelphia Phillies storyline: Win, place or no-show

The ifs are being addressed by the Philadelphia Phillies, and they begin with Roy Halladay.  However, while Phils fans finger their worry beads, the warts on the Braves and the Nationals are quite visible.   TAL’S HANDY CAPS WELCOME, NEWCOMERS:  My articles are designed to represent a baseball man’s thinking, the view from the dugout and the GM’s box. Most fans do not consider...

Top Prospect Biddle Looking Forward to Season with Reading

Widely recognized as the Phillies’ top prospect, lefty hurler Jesse Biddle can’t wait to get his 2013 season going. In attendance for the Phillies winter charity banquet at Lakewood’s Woodlake Country Club last week, Biddle looked forward to the event for weeks, as he feels rubbing elbows with Phils brass like assistant general manager Benny Looper, director of player development...

Prospect Nation 2013: #21 OF Kelly Dugan

Kelly Dugan was the Phillies’ top draft pick (2nd round, 75th overall) back in 2009.  Since then, it’s been a bit of a slow progression in the pro ranks, but after a solid season with Class A Lakewood in 2012, the California native has shown that he is ready to make an impact in the organization. Much hype surrounded Kelly upon being drafted to the Phillies, as an image of...

Rollins appears set to hit leadoff for Phils

While the Phillies lineup is likely a work in progress, Manuel seems locked in on Jimmy Rollins being the team's leadoff hitter. The Phils skipper believes Rollins is one of the best top of the order hitters in baseball.

Scouting Phils Prospect #21: Jake Diekman

On Multiple Occasions, The Phillies Tried To Land Justin Upton

If you don't come in first, then you're last. Yesterday the Atlanta Braves added their second big name and second Upton of the offseason while the Phillies watched. That does not mean that they did not try. According to David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News, the Phillies contacted Arizona...

Not Buying The Doom and Gloom

I've read it enough that I've kind of got to the point of being tired of it: The Phillies are done, and Amaro is a bust. In fact, even optimism is fake now. Seriously. This team is just screwed. I mean, first we heard how bad Michael Young is, then...

2013 Fantasy Baseball Rankings – Outfielders (1-20)

This is the sixth article in the series of our 2013 fantasy baseball rankings looking at the position of outfield. This year we see a changing of the guard in the top 20 as several young stars, Mike Trout, Bryce Harper and Jason Heyward are now firmly entrenched in the group. The biggest question mark in the top 20 to me is Jacoby Ellsbury who was injured once again last season and...

What’s The Most Overvalued Stat?

This last baseball season we had one of the oddest, most unpredictable MVP races in memory. 20-year old Mike Trout exploded onto the scene and dominated the game in a way which no one could have predicted for the rookie. Miguel Cabrera – one of the greatest hitters of our time, if ever – actually had a down year by his standards, however with the whole league seemingly in a funk...

2013 Top 250 Hitter Rankings & Projections

I'm sure there is a better way to do this, and I'll try to figure it out, but I wanted to get my hitter rankings and projections out there for the viewing public.  I know a lot of die hard fantasy baseball players are already in full gear with their rankings and mock drafts so this should help.       The way I did my rankings this year was a little different...
