Madison Bumgarner hit a three-run homer on a night when he struggled on the mound and Brandon Belt drove in four runs, helping the San Francisco Giants hold on for a 9-8 win over the Colorado Rockies in rainy conditions Tuesday. Belt broke a tie in the fifth with a two-run double. He also brought in a run on a fielder's choice and added a solo homer for the NL West leaders, who are 20-7 on the road since the All-Star break. Bumgarner was roughed up by the Rockies, allowing five runs and 11 hits in 4 1-3 innings. The lefty gave the Giants a big boost, though, with his bat, sending a 93 mph fastball from Jhoulys Chacin into the left-field seats.

Giants' Bumgarner shows off BP power in a game

It has been a joke around the batting cage, especially when the San Francisco Giants are struggling on offense, that Madison Bumgarner ought to hit in the middle of the lineup. His BPs are pretty fabulous sometimes. And, sometimes, he carries that into games. Like Tuesday. Bumgarner got the biggest hit in the Giants' 9-8 victory, a 416-foot three-run homer that tied the...

SF Giants Rumors: NL West Leader, MVP Posey, Vogelsong Downward Spiral, Etc.

The San Francisco Giants took 2-out-of-3 from the Dodgers over the weekend to extend their lead in the NL West to 5.5 games. They then flew to Colorado and dropped game 1 of the series to the Rockies. The lead in the NL West is now down to 5 games. Catcher Buster Posey is coming off back-to-back games where he is showing he’s MVP worthy in the National League. Sunday Posey was...

SF Giants Rumors: Sandoval Slump, Side Notes

Last night was another big win for the San Francisco Giants. The win combined with the Dodgers loss, made it a very sweet night for Giants fans. The lead in the NL West is now extended to 6 games.Pablo Sandoval still continues to struggle at the plate and defensively. In his last 6 games, Sandoval is hitting .087 (2-for-23) with 0 RBI and 2 runs scored. With the Giants 9 runs scored...

Madison Bumgarner’s Slider is Awfully Impressive

Through just two and half seasons, Madison Bumgarner has already accumulated 11.0 WAR, which is an even more impressive number when you consider that this is just his age-22 season. Bumgarner has followed a breakout 2011 campaign with a season of similar quality, with an increased strikeout rate and decreased walk rate despite a rather large uptick in home runs allowed. Even with...

The Most Underrated Giant

Commander Dave Cameron already declared Angel Pagan the most underrated player in baseball last week, but when you shift the universe from league to a team, things change. Ask a Giants fan how great Pagan has been this year, for example, and you’ll probably get as much gushing as you’ll get for a newcomer. On the other hand, you might be able to ask that same fan about Gregor...

Buster Posey Fights for his Pitch

There was a handful of crucially important series over this past weekend, and among them was Dodgers vs. Giants in San Francisco. The Dodgers came in four and a half games behind the Giants for first place in the NL West, and they were looking to make up ground in a hurry. They emerged five and a half games behind the Giants for first place, and according to Cool Standings, the Dodgers’...

Giants 8, Rockies 3

Tim Lincecum pitched effectively for six innings to extend his road winning streak to a career-best five straight, Brandon Crawford doubled twice and drove in two runs, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 8-3 Wednesday night to continue their strong play away from home. Marco Scutaro added three hits, including a pair of run-scoring singles, to help the NL West...

Barry Zito Delivers Big Time for the San Francisco Giants

In September 2010 the San Francisco Giants were in a heart-stopping race to try and catch the San Diego Padres and somehow wrestle away a first place finish in the National League West. The pitching-rich Padres spent 128 of the first 145 games of that year firmly in 1st place and it looked like the Giants were running uphill. But in the final 17 games of the season San Diego would...

Rockies 6, Giants 5

Rockies pitcher Alex White homered and Colorado finally solved a struggling Ryan Vogelsong, beating the San Francisco Giants 6-5 Monday night to snap a five-game losing streak. Buster Posey and Hunter Pence went deep for the Giants, who lost for only the second time in 10 road games. San Francisco's lead in the NL West was trimmed to five games over the idle Los Angeles Dodgers...

Positioning The Playoff Advantages

At this point, there’s not much of a chance the Giants won’t be in the playoffs.  According to ESPN, they have a 98.5% chance, which is better than any team in the AL other than the Texas Rangers.  In fact, four of the five NL spots seem certain.  Washington’s officially in.  Cincinnati is leading the Central and has a 99.9% chance.  Even Atlanta, who have a barely-better...

The Cheapest Group of Gypsy Queen Dudes in 2012.

I scored a sweet lot of five 2012 Gypsy Queen hits from my LCS a while back. For whatever reason I never got around to scanning them and writing something up. Anyways, for about seven clams and change, here's what I walked away with.First up, a sweet Brandon Belt on-card auto. I had wanted a Belt auto for some time - I don't really know why, but I did - so that's been...
