According to a tweet from Yahoo’s Tim Brown, the San Francisco Giants recently offered ace pitcher Tim Lincecum a two-year, $40 million dollar contract. The Freak countered with two years and $44 million.

Lincecum, 27, is arbitration-eligible for the third time, which basically means that it’s time for the Giants to pony up and give him a raise. A significant one at that.

A year ago, Timmy avoided an arbitration hearing (at the last minute) by agreeing to a one-year, $14 million contract.

The two-time Cy Young winner is a “Super Two” player and will be eligible for arbitration for a fourth time next year, so a two-year deal would buy out his last two arbitration years before he becomes eligible for full-on free agency in 2014.

When players and teams submitted their arbitration salary requests last week, Lincecum filed for $21.5 million dollars and the Giants submitted a $17 million offer, making the midway point for the two sides $19.25 million dollars.

Lincecum is the last of 11 arbitration-eligible Giants players still looking for a raise this winter.
