Found October 10, 2012 on The Crazy Crabbers:
After an improbable win where the Giants offense took a play right out of the 2010 Padres playbook the Giants season continues to today. Since I last looked at the odds things have changed quite a bit, with Johnny Cueto out and Mike Leake brought into replace him. Today it is Leake vs. Barry Zito (another change) and if necessary it will be Mat Latos vs. Matt Cain tomorrow morning. Here is everything updated with the changes since a ran the original projection and the updated odds: Reds Giants Game 1 100% 0% Game 2 100% 0% Game 3 0% 100% Game 4 49% 51% Game 5 44% 56% And the permutations for the last two games: Games Reds Giants 3 0% 0% 4 49% 0% 5 23% 28% Total 72% 28% It's still a long shot for the Giants but crazier things have happened and amazingly the Giants are actually favored in the last two games (even though they would be better classified as toss ...

Cueto out of action, Leake to start Game Four

CINCINNATI (AP) -- The Reds have dropped injured ace Johnny Cueto from their division series roster, replacing him with right-hander Mike Leake for Game 4 against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.Major League Baseball granted permission for the move at 11:30 a.m., less than five hours before the first pitch.Cueto pulled muscles in his side during the first inning of the series...

Reds' Leake to start Game 4

The Cincinnati Reds have opted to start Mike Leake in Game 4 of the NLDS in place of an injured Johnny Cueto, according to ESPN's Bob Holtzman. Leake was selected over Mat Latos, because Latos had pitched four innings of relief in Game 1. Cueto left that start with after just eight pitches with what has been described as a mild right oblique strain. Because the team will...

Mike Leake will start game four for the Reds

After my opining late last night about whether the Reds should start Mike Leake or Mat Latos in Wednesday's NL Division Series game four, the decision has bubbled up early this morning: Dusty Baker is going with Leake, meaning that Johnny Cueto will be out until the World Series (if the Reds advance that far).

Giants turn to Barry Zito to Save Season

Down two games to one in the NLDS against the Reds, the Giants are turning to their most trusted pitcher, Barry Zito? OK, so maybe not their most trusted pitcher, but when you are 11-0 in any pitchers last 11 starts, superstition tends to get the best of you. What is surprising is that the Giants are leaving their formerly Ace baker, I mean pitcher, Tim Lincecum in the bullpen. Not...

Oblique strain leaves Cueto's status uncertain

Johnny Cueto's postseason might be over after six pitches. Cueto, the Cincinnati Reds' ace right-hander, is dealing with a mild right oblique strain, team trainer Paul Lessard said Tuesday. It's uncertain when or if Cueto will be able to pitch again in the postseason. When Cueto left his start Saturday in the first inning of Game 1 of the National League Division...

Gut Check for Johnny Cueto

News concerning Cincinnati Reds ace Johnny Cueto went from bad to worse on Tuesday.According to a report from C. Trent Rosecrans of CBS Sports, Cueto suffered a mild oblique strain on Saturday night in game one of the National League Division Series. The injury occurred in the first inning after Cueto had only tossed eight pitches. The original report was that back spasms were the...

Reds still undecided on Cueto if there's Game 4

Johnny Cueto's bad back left the Cincinnati Reds unsure who would start Game 4 if their playoff against the San Francisco Giants goes that far. The Reds' 19-game winner had to leave the first inning of the divisional series opener Saturday because of back spasms. Mat Latos and the bullpen took over and pulled off a 5-2 win. The Reds took the first two games in San Francisco...

Zito would start Game 4 for Giants vs Reds

Left-hander Barry Zito will start Game 4 for the San Francisco Giants if they can extend their NL division series against the Cincinnati Reds. Two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum? He's staying in the bullpen. San Francisco flew in from the West Coast on Monday trailing 2-0 in the best-of-five series. The Reds can finish it off Tuesday night when Homer Bailey (13-10...

Giants look to Vogelsong, Zito to extend series

The biggest question being asked of the San Francisco Giants going into their National League Division Series with Cincinnati was whether they would use Barry Zito or Ryan Vogelsong in the rotation. Now, with the Giants facing elimination going into Game 3 on Tuesday night, they're using them both. The team announced Monday that Zito, who just finished by far his best season...

RLW Episode 28 – Two Down Nine More to Go

How many of you saw the Reds heading out west to start the 2012 Postseason and thought they’d win two games at AT&T Park? I know I didn’t. Especially with the way the offense was performing over the last 3 weeks of the season. Then Johnny Cueto lasts all of 8 pitches in Game 1. Yeah, 8! Still the Reds find themselves with a commanding lead as they head home Tuesday for Game...

Reds Drop Game 3

The Reds came home riding high on the verge of a sweep over the Giants in the NLDS. The injury to Johnny Cueto added importance to that for the opportunity to rest their rotation. Unfortunately it was not to be. Homer Bailey turned in a solid start but the opportunistic Giants took advantage of some lapses on defense to win 2-1 in ten innings and stave off elimination.

Cardinals rally after short start

Last GameThe Reds had yesterday off to make the trip home, but there was still a game of some interest to the Reds happening. The Cardinals hosted the Nationals for game two of their series. The Cardinals do not have the home-field advantage and had squandered their first chance in front of the “best fans in baseball” so it was particularly urgent to them to get the second game...

That's Right Baby

Angel Pagan is excited. And damnit, he should be. Bruce Bochy gave the ball to Barry Zito yesterday, and He did his best to throw the game away (Although Bruce can now claim that the Giants have won Zito's last 12 starts when he calls upon him for the next elimination game). In the fourth inning after Jose Mijares struck out Joey Votto, Bochy brought in The Freak. Lincecum came...
