The San Francisco Giants placed Chad Gaudin on the 15-day DL yesterday afternoon amidst a flurry of roster moves.  The reliever/starter is suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome and has struggled at times since the Giants moved him from the bullpen into the starting rotation. According to Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News, Gaudin's diagnosis means Barry Zito will be inserted back into the rotation.  Zito had been pulled from the rotation after suffering through some horrid outings this year.  Zito was even placed on (and cleared) waivers.  Zito will get the start against the Boston Red Sox today. Overall, Gaudin has had a solid season this year.  He is 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA.  However, in his 12 starts this season, Gaudin has posted a higher ERA.  He has been solid as a starter overall, but on occasion he will have his bad game.  The Giants still believe he is a better option than someone like Barry Zito, but at this point they have no choice but to pitch Zito. Guadin is pitching in his 11th Major League season.  In his career, he is 45-44 with a 4.44 ERA.  He has pitched for nine different teams in his career.  Gaudin is in his first year with the Giants.  He was signed on a one year deal, so at this point it is still unknown if he will be back with San Francisco next year. Giving up 7 hits, 6 earned runs, and 2 walks. The Giants hoped Zito would retain his 2012 form but is falling short of expectations, much like the...

Is Jeff Francoeur’s Career Over?

The San Francisco Giants have cut outfielder Jeff Francoeur.  The fancy term that they use in major league baseball for cutting a player is “designated for assignment.” Designated for assignment sounds like an important military term, but in major league baseball it means that you are no longer wanted.  It also means that they don’t know what they want to do with you. This...

Giants top Red Sox 3-2 on very questionable walk-off walk

When a team such as the Giants is "dying for a win" as Marco Scutaro put it it cannot quibble about the method. When the Giants beat the Red Sox 3-2 at China Basin on Tuesday night on Scutaro's two-out bases-loaded walk in the ninth the crowd was silent because everyone thought the pitch was a strike. Scutaro did not immediately jog to first. Roger Kieschnick was just...

Ball girl forgets her role, tries to catch foul ball in play
