For one charmed night the Giants had the Midas touch. In a 4-2 victory Friday against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers every break went the Giants' way from a meek swing by Brett Pill that scored two runs to the Adrian Gonzalez shot that deflected off Sergio Romo's foot and somehow ended the game. They made their own luck too with six excellent innings from Madison Bumgarner to Juan Perez's run-saving catch in left field to another big night from Hunter Pence who was 2-for-36 against Kershaw when he singled to start a rare big inning against the presumptive 2013 National League Cy Young winner. Two thoughts emerged after the Giants' 67th win: One where were those breaks all year? Two that kind of effort at the tail end of a lost season says a lot about this crew. "That's what you want to see" manager Bruce Bochy said. "This time of year you do find out about guys whether they're keeping up their intensity or distracted by something else. These guy are fighting." Bumgarner had to fight if he wanted to win for the first time since Aug. 2 because he was facing Kershaw who had lost to the Giants only four times in 20 prior starts and had allowed more than two runs against them only twice. Bumgarner held the Dodgers scoreless until his sixth and final inning when Juan Uribe hit a two-run homer into the left-field pavilion to break a 0-0 tie. Later in the inning with two outs and Andre Either on first base Perez sprinted deep into the left-field corner and robbed A.J. Ellis of an RBI and extra bases when he dived crashed into the fence and held onto the ball.
