The San Francisco Giants signed infielder Gil Velazquez and right-hander Yusmeiro Petit to minor league contracts on Wednesday, according to Matt Eddy at Baseball America.

Velazquez, 32, has played in 13 career games at the big league level. He appeared in four games with the Angels last season, but spent the majority of the year at the Triple-A level, batting .328/.399/.466 with eight home runs, 58 RBI and an .865 OPS.

He can play anywhere in the infield and could provide some depth at shortstop if projected-starter Brandon Crawford tanks.

Petit, 27, last appeared in the majors in 2009, when he went 3-10 with a 5.82 ERA, 1.517 WHIP, 7.4 SO/9 rate, and 3.4 BB/9 rate with the Diamondbacks.
