After a disastrous road trip, it was a bittersweet day at AT&T Park as the San Francisco Giants took home a win over the Washington Nationals. Ryan Vogelsong pitched his best over the last few weeks before being taken out with a fractured right hand.
Manager Bruce Bochy said Vogelsong has two breaks in his right hand, at the pinky and knuckle. He’ll have surgery tomorrow and should be out between 4-6 weeks.
“It’s a shame, because tonight was the Vogey that we know…he’ll be back hopefully in a couple months,” said Bochy.
Vogelsong added to Bochy’s sentiment, saying “That’s the best I’ve felt in a long time, from a mental aspect and a physical aspect. It was good to be out there and have everything fall into place…good to start from there, I guess, when I get back.”
When asked if he expected to come back from this like his other obstacles, Vogelsong just stated “Yeah. We’re not talking about Tommy John or anything here.”
