The Reds split a doubleheader with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night. But when you lose Game 2 in a long frustrating fashion, the split doesn't feel so even. "Long day," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "Real long day." The Reds beat the San Francisco Giants 9-3 in Game 1 and fell 5-3 in Game 2 before a crowd of 42,310 at AT&T Park. In Game 2, right-hander Greg Reynolds put the Reds in a 4-0 hole. And the kind of offense they got in Game 1 was missing. The Reds went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 14 runners on base. "It was one of those things," Jay Bruce said. "We couldn't get a timely hit." Game 2 was the makeup from a rainout at home on July 4. The Reds were the home team. They could not take advantage of it. Reynolds started in his first appearance in the big leagues since Sept. 25, 2011. It was not a happy return. He went five innings and allowed five runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out one. Reynolds was 10-2 with a 2.54 ERA in 18 starts for Triple-A Louisville before getting called up to make the start. Things did not go well from the beginning. Tony Abreu singled with one out in the first. Reynolds then hit Buster Posey with a pitch. Pablo Sandoval doubled to get both runners in. Hunter Pence made it 3-0 with an RBI single.
