There is less than 24 hours remaining until the trade deadline. The Giants have made one trade thus far (Mark Scutaro), but they have been linked to a handful of influential players from around the league.
The most reoccurring rumor swirling around is outfielder Hunter Pence of the Philidelphia Phillies. John Heyman of CBS mentioned the Giants and Phillies are talking about a potential deal that would send the 29-year-old Pence to San Francisco.
I don’t know how much he would cost in return, but I’d imagine Nate Schierholtz would be a good name to throw around. Pence will make over $10 million next season (which is evaluated a bit too high for a guy of his caliber, if you ask me), so that may be the reason the Giants are being so careful in acquiring him. The ownership group needs to approve any payroll increase before any transaction is made.
Pence is hitting .268 with 17 home runs and 59 RBI in 101 games this season in right field. Obviously, if the Giants acquire Pence, their off...

Being Pensive About The Pence Trade
So, Hunter Pence is a Giant and Nate Schierholtz is not.
I like Hunter Pence. He’s a bit bug-faced and lanky, which means that the Giants should stock up on Praying Mantis hats. He fills a big need on the Giants. He’s a right-handed power hitter. He’ll never be one of the top 20 players in baseball, but he’s definitely talented. Even playing as under his ability...
O'Donnell was right after all, Pence to Giants
A couple nights ago, Dennis O'Donnell of KPIX twittered about that the Giants "have acquired Hunter Pence".
It started a wildfire of retweets (re-posts for you old people not on Twitter), by everyone and their mother, including Andy Baggarly of CSN.
With fans going nuts over this apparent news, KPIX ran the story even after Baggarly had confirmed with Bobby...
Quick Note On Trading Hunter Pence
The CBS affiliate in San Francisco, KPIX's sports director Dennis O'Donnell, is reporting that the Phillies have a deal in place to send Hunter Pence to the San Francisco Giants. The deal is in place, pending the owner's approval (presumably because the Giants have to take on payroll outside of their budgeted amount). I'm fine with trading Pence, even though he...

Things are heating up with just about 16 hours left until the trade deadline at 4 PM ET tomorrow afternoon.
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, there is "definitely some juice" between the San Francisco Giants and the Phillies regarding outfielder Hunter Pence.
theres definitely some juice to the pence-to-the-giants talks. SF determined to land a hitter. "...
Phillies send Pence to Giants
The Philadelphia Phillies have traded two-time All-Star right fielder Hunter Pence to the San Francisco Giants for three players.
The last-place Phillies get outfielder Nate Schierholtz, minor league catcher Tommy Joseph and minor league right-handed pitcher Seth Rosin for Pence in Tuesday's deal.
Pence is batting .271 with 17 homers and 59 RBI this season. Schierholtz batted...
Mariners trade reliever League to Dodgers
A busy Monday night continues, with the Seattle Mariners trading former closer Brandon League to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for outfield prospect Leon Landry and pitcher Logan Bawcom.
The 29-year old (really, he's 29?!) League is a closer in title only, though he does have a fastball that averages 95 mph. His stats this year are disappointing, with a line drive...
FIRE SALE: Phillies Send Hunter Pence to San Francisco
Just hours after Shane Victorino was sent across the country to Los Angeles, his partner in the outfield is also headed to California. It's official that Hunter Pence has been traded to the SF Giants. The Giants will be responsible for the remainder of his $10.4 million salary for the 2012 season. Pence is eligible to be a free agent after the completion of next season.What'...
What did Phillies get back in Victorino and Pence deals?
What a difference a year makes. On this date one year ago the Phillies brought in Hunter Pence in a hugely popular trade - remember the cameras following his arrival in that black SUV? It bolstered a team who was 29 games above .500 and held a 6 game lead in the NL East on their way to 102 victories.
Exactly one year later, the 12 games under .500 last place...
2012 Fantasy Baseball, Trade Deadline: Philly deals Hunter Pence to the Giants
The Phillies aren’t done. On the heels of dealing the flying Hawaiian Shane Victorino for relief pitcher Josh Lindblom and SP prospect Ethan Martin, the Philles have decided to send Hunter Pence to Victorino’s division rival San Francisco Giants for 1B/C prospect Tommy Joseph, OF Nate Schierholtz and P prospect Seth Rosin. Pence is currently hitting .271 lowest since 2008...
SF Giants Rumors: Pence, Other Names Linked To Giants, And Schierholtz Update
Dennis O’Donnell of CBS 5 went on the air last night saying a source says the San Francisco Giants have acquired outfielder Hunter Pence.
The team has not confirmed this deal at this time. Which means the Giants could be close to landing Pence, or it could be some bad information passed by the source.
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com says the Giants have been tied to Pence, Aramis...
Gauging the Phillies’ Trades of Victorino and Pence
The trade deadline has passed, and now the dust begins to settle for the Philadelphia Phillies. There were 2 casualties, but there could have been more. The Phillies were unable to complete a deal with Baltimore to trade Joe Blanton, and also along the way decided to pull Cliff Lee off of the table.
In the end the Phillies traded away outfielders Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence...
MLB Trade Deadline Winners, Losers and The Blue Jays
The major league baseball trade deadline has come and gone and there are a number of players donning new digs around the circuit.
There were some obvious winners, losers and then there was the Toronto Blue Jays who traded away perennial prospect and fan favorite Travis Snider to the Pittsburgh Pirates for bullpen help in the likes of Brad Lincoln. Snider was pulled off the field...
Biertempfel: Pirates Unwilling to Part with Top Prospects
Rob Biertempfel reports:
The Pirates are reluctant to part with rookie outfielder Starling Marte or top right-handed pitching prospects Jameson Taillon and Gerrit Cole, which takes them out of the running for outfielder such as Hunter Pence, Shane Victorino and Shin-Soo Choo.
I think the Pirates are definitely being smart in not giving up any of these three guys for the people mentioned...
Pregame: Lee vs. Strasburg Closes Out Big Trade Day
A busy day in a dreadful Phillies season finds them shipping Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence out of town. Both moves were very necessary and look for more in the next month as the waiver trade deadline approaches. My brief editorial is the return for Victorino and Pence is worthy of them. I was among the few that felt the haul to land Pence in the first place was ridiculous and...
