Definitely worth noting: The 1st Annual Gio Gonzalez Foundation Baseball Camp for kids and VIP luncheon will take place on August 8th at Shirley Povich field in Bethesda in conjunction with Bethesda Big Train. Go here for Camp and VIP luncheon tickets. Proceeds go to the Gio Gonzalez Foundation, which provides support and funding to children and families in need of medical assistance.
Andrew Lang of All Stars Plus sports marketing was involved with teaming up Gio with Bethesda Big Train for the camp. Lang described the partnership between Gio and Big Train for the camp as a win-win: ("Whenever you start with a person like Gio, it's going to be a win-win even if you did a car wash!"). More from Lang on the spirit of the event and the charities involved: "A primary goal here that everyone involved agreed on was to take the majority of the camp's spots and reserve them for other charities at no-cost -- specifically charities that work with children in need. ...

Despite original plans for him to do so, the Washington Nationals are not likely to have Ross Detwiler make a minor league rehab start this week. The 27-year old lefty has been on the disabled list since the beginning of July. He is battling stiffness in his back. Unfortunately, his progress has gone slower than anticipated and the Nationals will hold off on his rehab start...
The Presidents Race during Friday night's Washington Nationals game was hit by a Sharknado which took down all of the Presidents except for Abe Lincoln, who won the race by default.

This is just too much phenom for one video.
During Friday’s Dodgers-Nationals game, Bryce Harper led off the second inning with a double. Jayson Werth then followed with a deep flyout to right field, and Harper, being the super-aggressive player that he is, tagged up and headed to third.
But the man on the receiving end of that fly ball was Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig, who unleashed...
So Paul McCartney played Nationals Park last weekend while the Nats were away, and now centerfield is looking pretty chewed up as the Nats begin the second half. Thanks for nothing, Paul!

Will the Washington Nationals Bryce Harper or the Los Angeles Dodgers Yasiel Puig get their shot at Olympic glory?
Probably not says MLB commissioner Bud Selig.
Baseball was voted out of the 2012 Summer Olympics by the IOC (International Olympic Committee) in 2005.
If the sport returns in 2020 as petitioned, Americans will have little interest.
Selig said Tuesday there would...

Andre Ethier homered off Rafael Soriano to lead off the ninth inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers resumed play after the All-Star break Friday night with a 3-2 win over the Washington Nationals.
Ethier pulled a 1-2 slider just over the wall in right-center, his sixth homer of the year and the second ninth-inning homer allowed by Soriano (1-2) in three appearances.
Welcome to the second half, when tension elevates daily as July humidity threatens to melt into October chill.
With 67 games remaining of a less-than-stunning season, the Washington Nationals find themselves in an unfamiliar position. They are entering a period when each game means more with the same aspirations for the postseason they entertained last year. However, this year...
Tweet The tales of legendary feats performed by Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig aren’t stopping anytime soon. In the second inning of Friday’s game versus the Washington Nationals Puig put his rocket launcher of an arm on display yet again. Earlier this season we saw the 22-year old nail Atlanta Braves shortstop Andrelton [...]
I have no idea what happened in the Yankiverse yesterday. None. Maybe Cashman stole Bryce Harper from the Nationals, or A-Rod has been promoted to Columbus. It's like being in outer space. I'm cut off. The Duke showed up last night, a day ahead of schedule. He came early because the Redsocks are in first. Smug SOB. Wore a brand new Redsock hat. I'm talking brand new....

The Washington Nationals (48-47) will start the second half of the season against the Los Angeles Dodgers (47-47) in a series highlighted by premier pitching and marquee hitters.
