On Tuesday, Baseball Prospectus delivered one of the most strange and disconcerting but tremendously amusing posts in the site’s esteemed history. It featured images of what now can only be considered an ill-conceived gambit by Playgirl in the early 1980s where the magazine published beefcake photos of scantily clad MLB players on its pages in [...]The post Gio Gonzalez models shirt featuring Nationals pitching coach’s Playgirl photo appeared first on Sportress of Blogitude.

Harper ripped by teammate after loss

Nationals reliever Rafael Soriano questioned Bryce Harper's defensive positioning on a game-tying triple that tied the game in the ninth inning that ultimately led to a loss.

Bryce Harper on that triple over his head: "I don’t want to hit the frickin’ wall full-on."

So what happened on that deep fly ball by Gregor Blanco that went over Bryce Harper's head in the 9th inning that turned into a game-tying triple? Harper appeared to flinch as he approached the wall and misplayed the ball (see video here). Turns out Harper was thinking about running into another wall: "I don’t want to hit the frickin’ wall full-on. Of course...

The Washington Nationals Are Wearing Shirts With Their Pitching Coach’s Playgirl Photo On Them

Sure many women flock to Bryce Harper as the heartthrob of the Washington Nationals, but it’s actually their pitching coach, Steve McCatty who sends all the ladies into a tizzy. All the female fervor over McCatty reached it’s hunky pinnacle in 1984 when he was featured in a Playgirl pictorial. Next stop Beefcake City. This tantalizing photo has all of the early 80′s sexuality...

Brad Lidge retiring as a Phillie

Brad Lidge, the closer of the 2008 World Series champion Phillies team, will officially retire as a Phillie.   Brad Lidge will retire as a Phillie on Aug. 1. He will throw out the first pitch. Will he go to his knees? — Matt Gelb (@magelb) May 22, 2013 Though he spent most of his career outside of Philadelphia, the crowning achievement, and perhaps his best...

Nationals' Espinosa has broken bone in right wrist

Washington Nationals second baseman Danny Espinosa has a broken bone in his right wrist and will rest a few days to see if it improves. Manager Davey Johnson said Friday that Espinosa has been playing with discomfort since getting hit by a pitch April 14 against the Atlanta Braves. Espinosa also has a bone chip in the wrist, but the main concern is a small fracture that needs time...

Nats closer rips Harper after miscue

It's been a rough couple of weeks for Nats' rising star Bryce Harper. First, there was his embarrassing face-plant into the right-field wall at Dodger Stadium. Harper tried to track down a drive off the bat of A.J. Ellis but failed to remember the important part of the term "warning track." Take a look for yourself. OK, so maybe it's wise for him not to do...

Nationals Manager Davey Johnson Says he Won’t Shave Until Team Starts Hitting

The Washington Nationals like a number of other teams that were expected to accomplish big things this season, have struggled so far. The Nationals 24-23 record is respectable, but they’re second-worst hitting team in the major leagues sporting a woeful .225 average. Well, according a story via Yahoo! Sports, Nationals manager Davey Johnson, is trying everything he can to get...

Another Sort-Of First for Bryce Harper

Even when I’m not trying to pay attention to Bryce Harper, he finds a way to capture my focus. Last night, I was seeing off a friend on the east side of Portland, and if I’d been thinking about any sport, it was hockey, since these are the days of the NHL playoffs. A TV was being projected onto one of the walls of the bar, and at first it was showing a minor-league hockey game...

Rafael Soriano Bashes Teammate Bryce Harper For Miscue

One of three things happens when a good team starts to lose. 1. The team rallies behind a leader who portrays a greater poise. 2. The manager makes minor adjustments in the lineup to make sure the team is running on all cylinders. 3. Frustration sets in and fingers start to be pointed, in either the direction of another player or at the player himself. The latter took place after...

Next up Washington, are they must win games?

Next up the Washington Nationals for the Memorial Day weekend. Is it too early to say these games are a must win? They are important and they might also help set the table for the season series. The Phillies who are on a two-game winning streak courtesy of Cliff Lee’s 3-0 shutout are two games back behind the second place Nationals. The bats might be coming alive, the first being...

Johnson says no shave until Nats start hitting

Davey Johnson says he's giving up his razor until the Washington Nationals find their bats. The manager apologized for his scraggly appearance before Friday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies, but he said it had a purpose. ''If my facial hair looks bad,'' he said, ''I decided I wouldn't shave until we started hitting.'' The Nationals...
