I am well aware that fingers can be pointed at a number of people when it comes to what caused last night's horrible Yankee loss to the Red Sox:  Ivan Nova, Mariano Rivera and Alfonso Soriano come to mind, of course.  So does Joba Chamberlain. However, many fingers, in my opinion, should also be pointed at the manager, Joe Girardi. If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that I am one of the last people who would blame Joe Girardi for a loss. I've never played organized sports, let alone coached them so, far be it from me to criticize someone in such a position. However, the fact that he used Joba Chamberlain in such a high leverage situation last night, in a game that the Yankees could not afford to lose, was a mistake that even I found glaring. At this point in the season, and at this point in Joba's career, the Yankees cannot afford to take chances with him. By now, he should be relegated to Last Man status. I don't care if the other members of the bullpe...

  • I've been saying for a long time now that the Yankees need to just designate joba for assignment...he's not getting resigned so why allow him to stick around and hurt this teams chance to make a comeback. I personally can't stand to see this Phat Phuck in Yankee pinstripes and he has got to go. In game one he jawed at the ump for a missed call on a swing by Victorino...it should have been strike three. But joba the fatt wasn't able to man up and go after Victorino...instead he served up the hit that ultimately cost us the game. I can't wait until his sorry asss is gone and I have been wishing for some time now that Joe would stop turning to him in tight situations. I got my wish finally when he moved Hughes to the Pen, now he has to get rid of joba.

From September 20-26, Foley's NY Pub and Restaurant will be renamed "Mariano's" in honor of the soon-to-be-retired closer. Yup, the Bill Veeck of booze vendors...

Girardi wants Rivera back for '14

Mariano Rivera's farewell tour has been one of the far and few highlights of the Yankees rough and tumble 2013 season but now, it sounds like manager Joe Girardi wants his Hall of Fame closer to leave his pile of swag in its wrappers and come back for one more year. Girardi will give Rivera time to settle into retirement before reaching out, he stressed Tuesday night. ...

Joba Chamberlain Says Replay ‘Speaks for Itself’ After Being Ejected in Loss to Red Sox

Shane Victorino came very close to going around on a check swing in the 10th inning of Thursday’s game, so close, in fact, that you could make the argument he did offer at the pitch from Joba Chamberlain. First base umpire Joe West didn’t think Victorino went around, and his opinion was the only one that mattered. Victorino, given a second life after what could have been strike...

Joe Girardi Wants To Talk Mariano Rivera Out Of Retiring

What manager in their right mind would want Mariano Rivera to retire? The answer is none, so that’s why it comes as no surprise that Yankees manager Joe Girardi wants his legendary closer to stay. “I don’t see any reason why he couldn’t do it next year, I don’t. He’s made it pretty clear that he doesn’t want to [return], but I always say, you know, January rolls...

Yankees closer Rivera says his mind is made up, will retire after season

“Enter Sandman” will be silenced after this season according to Mariano Rivera and no pleas from manager Joe Girardi or anyone else will change the legendary closer’s retirement plans. Preview: Yankees vs Red Sox (8/5/13)

(Rich Schultz/Getty Images) A heated rivalry, postseason implications and, perhaps, some added drama stemming from the last time these clubs met, sure sounds like a September matchup between the Yankees and Red Sox. Red Sox Head to New York With Good Chance of Putting Dent in Yankees’ Playoff Hopes

If the Red Sox don’t want to have to worry about facing their archrival, the Yankees, in the 2013 American League Division Series (which they would if the Yankees took the wild card game), winning this weekend’s four-game series in the Bronx would help.
