Troy Glaus connected for a dramatic walk-off solo blast and Brian McCann added a solo shot of his own as the red-hot Braves beat the Kansas City Royals 5-4 on Saturday night in Atlanta.
The game-winning solo shot by the hot-hitting Glaus was his 14th homerun of the season, while McCann’s fourth inning blast was his seventh homerun of the year.
The Braves jumped out to an early 2-0 first inning lead when Chipper Jones delivered an rbi-single and later scored on a Kansas City throwing error, and Atlanta followed up with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings on McCann’s solo shot and yet another rbi from Glaus, while the Royals scored two runs apiece in the fifth and seventh innings to tie the game at 4-4, setting the stage for Glaus’ ninth inning heroics.
And the National League’s rbi leader didn’t disappoint the home crowd, driving a pitch from Royals reliever Robinson Tejada deep into the leftfield seats to win it for Atlanta.
Braves’ closer Billy Wagner (5-0) pitched a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the win for Atlanta, while Tejada (2-3) took the loss for Kansas City.
The win was the fourth straight win, sixth win in seven games, and the 14th win in their last 15 home games for the surging Braves, who improved to 41-28 with the win, while the loss dropped the Royals to 29-40 on the year.
