I don’t think i have to tell you, I wasn’t a huge fan of Brandon Wood. He was truly a minor league monster, hitting more than 160 home runs and driving in close to 600 runs. His minor league success just didn’t translate to the majors. a 141 career average, plus the inability to win the 3rd base position after Chone Figgins left forced the Angels hand.
The Angels D-F-A (Desiginated for assignment) Wood yesterday. It was a tough move for the Halos management and players, who loved Woody (great nickname).
I remember talking to a kid about 6 years ago. He had been drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the late rounds. I asked about the difference between 1st round picks and him. He said time with coaches. He explained that the talent level is very close with most of the draftees, but it comes down to money.
