Former Texas A&M right-handed pitcher Ross Stripling became the first player selected in the Dodgers' draft class (fifth round) to sign a contract, doing so on Thursday. Dodgers 2012 MLB Draft Recap: Day 2

The Dodgers have done very well in the 2012 MLB Draft thus far. I see more of a focus on position players, which makes sense considering the obvious need the Dodgers have for it down in the lower levels. Dodgers assistant general manager Logan White has in recent years fallen under the philosophy of draft pitchers, early and often. For the first time in an entire decade that philosophy...

Dodgers Sign Free Agent Wes Roemer

According to MLB.com the Dodgers have signed free agent right-hander Wes Roemer. Roemer, the Diamondbacks' supplemental first round selection in 2007, had been pitching with the St. Paul Saints of the American Association this year. The 25-year-old pitched in the upper minors last year, posting a 4.39 ERA in 164 innings. He's a six foot, 200 pound righty, that was born...

Yet another Phillies injury: Now it's Galvis

Following their season-high fifth straight loss, the last-place Phillies were dealt another blow: Gold Glove-worthy rookie second baseman Freddy Galvis was headed to the 15-day disabled list with a lower back injury. Galvis, who has started 44 of the Phillies' 58 games this season in place of injured All-Star Chase Utley, exited Wednesday's game in the middle of his at...

Jonathan Papelbon says umpire ‘sucked,’ should be sent down to Triple-A (Video)

Jonathan Papelbon may have taken the loss as the Phillies were defeated 4-3 by the Dodgers on Monday night, but he is not taking the blame. That blame, he says, belongs to home plate umpire D.J. Reyburn. In a 3-3 tie in the ninth, Papelbon allowed a lead-off triple on a 2-2 pitch to Dodgers shortstop Dee Gordon. Papelbon thought he had strike three on the previous pitch, and naturally...

2012 MLB Draft: Los Angeles Dodgers – Day 3 – Rounds 16 Through 25

The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Josh Henderson in the 16th round of the 2012 MLB Draft. An outfielder out of First Baptist Christian School in Virginia. Baseball America had him ranked #10 in Virginia. Henderson gained some attention on the showcase circuit last year as he has a knack for squaring balls up, but the

Phillies' infield shows cracks

When Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel wrote out his lineup card Thursday morning, the highlight was the last name he penciled in: Cole Hamels. On a day game after a night game, Manuel gave his hot-hitting catcher and current cleanup hitter Carlos Ruiz the day off, and, in turn, was left with another hole in the middle of his lineup and what amounted to his worst defensive...

Make That One More: Freddy Galvis Joins Many Phillies on the Disabled List

Fans loved his bat. Freddy's body, however did not like his one at bat last night in the fifth inning as he strained his lower back on a swing. Mike Fontenot replaced Galvis on a 3-2 count and walked.  The Phillies placed Galvis on the 15-day disabled list today. Michael Martinez will be called up from Lehigh Valley to take his place.  Expect to see much of Mike Fontenot against...

Aaron Harang got his 100th career victory as Los Angeles overcame a two-run, sixth-inning deficit, and the Dodgers won 8-3 Thursday to complete their first four-game sweep at the Philadelphia Phillies in 66 years. Harang (5-3) allowed three runs and eight hits in six innings, improving to 100-98 in 11 big league seasons. The Dodgers had not swept a four-game series at Philadelphia...
