The Milwaukee Brewers are unbeaten when Zack Greinke takes the mound at Miller Park.
Ryan Braun's potential absence combined with Johnny Cueto getting the ball for the Cincinnati Reds may put that streak in serious jeopardy.
Greinke might not have the NL MVP behind him as he goes for another home victory in the conclusion of this three-game set with the Reds on Wednesday afternoon.
Milwaukee (13-17) has won all 20 times Greinke (3-1, 4.11 ERA) has started at Miller Park, including two games during last year's postseason. He even won his only start there as a visitor with Kansas City on June 24, 2007.
In those 20 games for the Brewers, the right-hander is 14-0 with a 3.36 ERA and 155 strikeouts in 126 innings. He gave up four runs - two earned - with 10 strikeouts in six innings without getting a decision in an 8-7 win on July 8 in his lone start against Cincinnati (15-14) during that stretch.
The 2009 AL Cy Young winner is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in three home appearances this season, and is 3-0 with a 2.57 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 28 innings over four career starts against the Reds.
He wasn't very sharp in his most recent trip to the mound, giving up four runs in 5 1-3 innings while not getting a decision in a 6-4 win Friday at San Francisco.
Greinke has received plenty of help during his home winning streak, getting backed by an average of 6.14 runs. That may be an issue if Braun can't play after re-aggravating an Achilles injury on a play in the outfield during Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Reds.
"He was doing pretty good until that play, so we'll see how he is (Wednesday)," manager Ron Roenicke said.
Braun is hitting .306 with nine homers and 20 RBIs, and is 13 for 21 with four homers and eight RBIs in his last five meetings with the Reds. He has five hits, including a home run and a double, in this series.
The All-Star left fielder, however, is just 5 for 22 with four strikeouts against Cueto.
Cueto (4-0, 1.31) is proving last season's solid finish was no fluke by pitching even better to begin 2012. The right-hander hasn't lost since Aug. 6 against the Chicago Cubs, going 6-0 with a 2.14 ERA in 13 starts with Cincinnati winning 11.
Cueto, among baseball's ERA leaders, tossed a seven-hitter in Friday's 6-1 win at Pittsburgh.
"Early in his career he'd always have that bad one inning where his emotions would get out of whack," manager Dusty Baker said. "But now he's learned to settle himself down."
Those struggles have been evident - especially early - in Milwaukee, where he's 0-2 with a 6.86 ERA in four starts. Of the 14 runs he's given up in his last three outings there, 13 have come in the first two innings.
Brandon Phillips appears to enjoy visits to Miller Park since he's batting .373 with six doubles and 14 RBIs in his past 14 games there. The second baseman is 4 for 8 with two doubles in this series after coming in riding a 4-for-28 slump.

Brewers extend contracts of Melvin, Roenicke
MILWAUKEE After an unprecedented year of success for the Brewers in 2011, with Milwaukee winning the NL Central and coming just short of a World Series appearance, the organization announced Tuesday that it has extended the contracts of current general manager Doug Melvin and manager Ron Roenicke.
Melvin's extension also includes a promotion, officially naming him the Brewers...
Front Row Amy Something Something
This represents me touching on the Front Row Amy phenomenon. I guess?
Wednesdays game wasn't your usual Milwaukee Brewers contest.
No, no... they still lost. And, obviously, Travis Ishikawa managed to replicate the results of a slumping Ichiro Jones. The most sizable difference (well, two most sizable differences) between this Brewers/Reds rubber match and most other Miller Park...
Melvin can maintain as well as rebuild
MILWAUKEE When Brewers general manager Doug Melvin took over in late September 2002, after another disappointing season in Milwaukee, the city had meager expectations for its baseball team. A decade straight of losing seasons will do that.
So when Melvin set out to rebuild the Brewers, he started with a seemingly simple goal in winning back the city of Milwaukee.
"When...
Winning is best cure for Brewers' injury blues
MILWAUKEE A few hours before Monday's game against Cincinnati, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke took his usual, pre-game stroll through the team's clubhouse. This time though, he was surveying a team that had changed quite drastically since its last game at Miller Park.
Only pitchers Chris Narveson and Brandon Kintzler were injured the last time Milwaukee had laced up in its...
Braun: 'We have to find a way to win games'
MILWAUKEE Despite the team's well-noted struggles at the plate this season, Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said before Wednesday's game against the Reds that if the team's pitching staff had been throwing the past month like it had last season, then the team could've easily overcome its woeful hitting in the season's first month.
There's reason to...
Brewers' batters are searching for answers
MILWAUKEE Johnny Narron didn't have to do much talking on the other end of the phone Wednesday morning; after all, the caller Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton had plenty to talk about.
The night before, Hamilton had completed one of the best single-game efforts in baseball history, tallying four home runs, eight RBI, and an American League-record 18 total bases. And it was...
Audio: Front Row Amy & Front Row Ashley Tell 1250 AM In Milwaukee They Might Join Forces
All we heard for like 18 hours from Milwaukee Brewers fan was that our Front Row Ashley marketing campaign was “lame” and a “complete failure” wouldn’t be on TV in Wisconsin. Blah, blah, blah. And then we went out and put Ashley in the infamous seat usually occupied by Front Row Amy. The fans in attendance loved it. The beer vendors loved Ashley and Milwaukee’s 1250...
10 Reasons You Should Stop Worrying About the Brewers
There is a good chance the Milwaukee Brewers 2012 season is cursed. I mean, what other possible explanation is there for all of the injuries they have suffered lately? Was Miller Park built on an Indian burial ground and the lost souls are having their revenge? Did Ron Roenicke date a witch? Or maybe the Brewers left a crappy tip for their waitress at Buffalo Wild Wings and now the...
What Will Gonzalez's Injury Cost The Brewers?
Photo: Jeff Chiu/APThe Brewers learned yesterday that Alex Gonzalez has a torn ACL, meaning they have lost three regulars (totaling somewhere around five wins) for the rest of the season. In a year that has been almost nothing but bad news, this may be the worst break yet. The Brewers have already lost Chris Narveson and Mat Gamel, but they will likely be able to recoup most of their...
Brewers 8, Reds 3
Aramis Ramirez hit a three-run triple, helping the Milwaukee Brewers shake off their recent offensive struggles in an 8-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night.
Yovani Gallardo (2-3) gave up two runs in six innings and tied a season high with eight strikeouts for the Brewers, who had lost eight of their previous 11 games.
Gallardo had an RBI single in the fifth, snapping...

Brewers finalize extensions for Melvin and Roenicke
The Milwaukee Brewers announced that they have finalized contract extension for manager Ron Roenicke and General Manager Doug Melvin. Aaron Gleeman of NBCSports adds that Melvin's deal “runs through 2015,” and Roenicke’s deal “runs through 2014″ with team option for 2015.
In 2011, his first year as a manager, Roenicke led the team to their first NL Central title with...
Cubs-Brewers Preview
Dale Sveum watched from the home dugout as the Milwaukee Brewers won eight straight games over the Chicago Cubs at Miller Park last season.
Now managing Chicago, Sveum hopes to see that streak end as a visitor.
The Brewers look to spoil Sveum's return to Milwaukee when the NL Central rivals - both stuck at the bottom of the division - begin a three-game set Friday night.
Sveum...
