First Wily Mo Pena. Now Vladimir Guerrero? Guerrero, a nine-time All-Star, might work out for the Diamondbacks at their complex in the Dominican Republic with 10 or 15 young Latin American prospects in the next few days, D-backs general manager Kevin Towers said during a television interview with FOX Sports Arizona on Sunday. I think we might even have Vlad Guerrero come out and work out for us. It will be interesting to see how they stack up against Vlad, Towers said. Guerrero, the 2004 AL MVP with the Los Angeles Angels, is a free agent after hitting 13 home runs with 63 RBIs in 145 games at Baltimore last year. Guerrero has been used almost exclusively as a DH the last three seasons after beginning his career as a right fielder. He did not play in the field with Baltimore last year. He has 449 homers in a 16-year major league career. Pena served a valuable role as a DH in the D-backs nine interleague road games last season after signing a minor-league contract with the D-backs before the 2011 season. He hit .196 but had five home runs and seven RBIs in 46 at-bats after being purchased from Triple-A Reno in mid-June and made an immediate impact. Pena homered in his second at-bat of the season in a 7-2 victory in Kansas City on June 21, then hit a massive tie-breaking home run in the seventh inning for a 7-6 victory at Detroiton June 24. He had a pinch-hit, two-run, walkoff homer in a 6-4 victory over Cleveland on June 28. Shortly after interleague play concluded, the D-backs designated Pena for assignment, and he was picked up by Seattle. The D-backs play in Kansas City on May 18-20, their first interleague road series. They also have interleague road series at Texas from June 12-15 and at the Angeles from June 16-18. Guerrero spent six seasons (2004-09) with the Angels and played with Texas in 2010. Guerrero, 37, was arrested in the Dominican Republic for allegedly attacking a police officer in a fight in a night club April 10. Guerrero turned himself in to authorities the next morning. At no time did I attack anyone, nor was I fleeing. I presented myself at the jail last night after the complaint from the disco, and this morning first thing I went to the police that are handling the case, Guerrero said in a statement.Follow Jack Magruder on Twitter
