The Indians got a much needed win Monday night, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 in a well-pitched game that also featured a new-look Cleveland lineup.

Manager Manny Acta shook up the middle of his order, moving designated hitter Travis Hafner and catcher Carlos Santana down.

Hafner and Santana have been struggling for much of the season, and in particular of late. One or the other has been frequently been the cleanup hitter, with the other often hitting fifth.

That configuration hasn't worked out very well, mostly because neither Santana nor Hafner has produced many runs. Santana has just 30 RBI, and Hafner has 26. With runners in scoring position, Santana is hitting .219, Hafner .137.

Acta tried to be as patient as possible waiting for them to start producing, but he finally made a major change in the Indians' fourth game after the All-Star break.

Hafner was moved down to the No. 6 spot in the order, and Santana was dropped to the No. 7 spot. It marked the first time either player hit in those spots in the order this year. Acta chose center fielder Michael Brantley to replace Hafner in the cleanup spot. Brantley has been the Indians' best hitter for much of this season.

Hafner finished 0-for-2 with two walks, while Santana went 1-for-4.

Brantley went 0-for-1 with three walks. Acta likes Brantley's consistency and plate discipline. Brantley's 13-game hitting streak was halted Monday, but he also had a 22-game hitting streak earlier this season, and he came into Monday's game leading the American League in hitting in July with a .474 average. Brantley is also hitting .306 with runners in scoring position.
