Phillies-roy-halladay
The Roy Halladay we have all been waiting to see returned last night in an 8-2 win over the Cardinals.  It began with his last start against the Marlins and then Friday night, he continued to improve in an impressive 7-inning effort. The game was called due to rain after the 7th, so this will go in the books as a complete game for Halladay.  He allowed only 2 runs, both solo homers. But the really encouraging part was seeing Halladay get angry.  Not the fiery red-faced, frustrated sort of anger; this was his old competitive fire, finally burning once again.  He got mad in situations that most would just shrug off; for example, Ben Revere made another amazing catch in center field, but Halladay was visibly annoyed that the batter was able to hit the ball that hard, even though it turned into an out. Halladay also had no issues trying to intimidate first-year major league umpire, Alan Porter, by staring him down or barking at him when he didn’t get the call he wanted.  Porter had blow...

John Mayberry Jr. suffers worst outfield nightmare (Video)

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder John Mayberry Jr. suffered an incredibly embarrassing moment when he slipped and fell while trying to catch a fly ball in the outfield during Thursday night's game at Citizens Bank Park against the St. Louis Cardinals. It happened in the fourth inning as Cardinals batter Allen Craig hit an easy fly ball to right center field. Mayberry seemed...

Phillies Offense Explodes In Shortened Win vs Cards

The rain didn’t stop the Phillies offense from being en fuego tonight. In a rain-shortened game, the Phillies offense exploded for eight runs in Friday night’s contest against the Cardinals. They scored five runs in the first, an outburst that began with a walk–yes, one of THOSE–by Chase Utley. On the mound, Roy Halladay threw a second solid game in a row, giving up just...

Game Called in Middle of the Seventh, Halladay Earns Second Win in 8-2 Victory

The Phillies were looking to snap a four-game losing streak tonight, and that wouldn't be too difficult of a task with a sharp Roy Halladay on the mound. It didn't take very long for the Phillies to jump ahead of Jaime Garcia and the Cardinals. They scored five in the...

Schierholtz/Nix Fiasco Yet Another Miscalculation

The Phillies are getting absolutely nothing out of their outfield. In 183 at-bats, Phillies outfielders are batting .219 with five home runs. Ben Revere hasn’t gotten off the ground, Laynce Nix and John Mayberry are doing pretty much what you’d expect in one outfield corner and Domonic Brown remains the wildly inconsistent, baseball version of Evan Turner. The Phillies’ outfield...

Phillies Bats Go Missing In Loss To Cardinals

Cliff Lee didn’t look himself tonight (Photo: AP). Cliff Lee was cold and the bats were colder. The recipe was toxic, and made for a long and boring night for the Phillies, who fell to the Cardinals 5-0. The loss dropped the Phillies to 7-11 on the season. LEE LOOKS HUMAN - As I wrote in tonight’s Gameday, no Phillies pitcher has instilled more confidence in the team than Cliff...

Joe Savery Recalled By Phillies

He's back! Tonight the Phillies announced that they have recalled left-handed reliever Joe Savery from AAA Lehigh Valley, according to the Allentown Morning Call's Mandy Housenick. Savery will fill the roster spot vacated by John Lannan, who heads to the 15-day disabled list. Just earlier I pretty much ruled Savery...

Philadelphia Phillies: 2013 ERA for the MLB 5 at game 16

There are only a few number ones in the majors like Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies. What west coast hurlers are his equal? TAL’S HANDY STATS WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I will publish the 2013 ERA for both the NL East and the MLB 5 periodically. The number of games played by the Phillies is in the headline at the end. If you’re interested in checking out something different...

Cardinals take on Lee, Phillies in Philadelphia

(AP) -- With their offense possibly awoken, the Philadelphia Phillies are hoping to parlay a win over the St. Louis Cardinals into more success. The sturdy Cliff Lee should give them a chance to do so as he takes the mound Saturday night against the visiting Cardinals. Philadelphia's 8-2 win Friday in the second of a four-game set snapped a four-game slide. Though it was shortened...

Amaro Unhappy With Offensive Approach

“I think it’s ridiculous that we’ve had no walks in three days. I cannot believe it. More importantly, it’s about not just walks, but producing, and we haven’t done that. We haven’t gotten hits, period. We haven’t gotten hits with runners in scoring position, we haven’t gotten hits to lead off innings. We need more people on base and more offensive production. You’ve...

PN Interview: Top 2011 Draft Pick Larry Greene Jr.

Larry Greene Jr., image- Jay Floyd Left fielder Larry Greene Jr. was selected by the Phillies in the supplementary round of the 2011 draft (39th overall) out of Berrien County High School (GA).  The 6-foot 235-pounder signed late that season and spent some time with the Florida Instructional League team.  He made his official regular season debut last year with the short-season...

Five Ways To Fix The Phillies Offense

Let's face it, the Phillies kind of stink. I mean, they don't full blown stink, but their style of play has been disheartening to say the least. The offense is particularly horrific. I've racked my brain for ways to quick fix this team right now. We cannot wait until next...

Kyle Kendrick Takes The Mound In Series Finale As Phils Look For Split

Compared to Friday's game, last night's game was just absolutley pitiful. The Phillies managed just three hits, their first coming in the bottom of the fifth. Lance Lynn held the Phillies in check, yielding just one hit through seven innings. Cliff Lee was held accountable for last night's game as...

Notes From The Phillies’ 5-0 Loss To St. Louis

Cardinal Rule

Cliff Lee entered tonight’s game against St. Louis with an earned run average not far above one. His record was two wins, no losses and he walked only one batter prior to tonight. He had gone at least seven innings in his first three starts, allowing a total of only two runs. He would hit a [...]
