Roy Halladay’s sore right shoulder is scheduled to undergo an examination Tuesday. The Philadelphia Phillies are worried about the health of the veteran pitcher. “Anytime you have an injury, you have a concern, no matter who it is,” Phillies assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said Monday. “We've been through these things before. [Vance] Worley, [Roy] Oswalt last year. We're fortunate we have Kyle [Kendrick] in the role he is in. Hopefully, Vance is close to coming off the DL, so we'll be covered again.” Worley was placed on the disabled list May 12 with inflammation in his right elbow. He said he hasn’t felt pain in the elbow while playing long toss. Knowing the Phillies might need help in their rotation, Worley said he’s hoping to return soon. “It's tough. I don't know exactly what's going on there right now,” Worley said. “But I'm trying to get back as fast as I can anyway. I don't want to say there's more pressure, but I definit...

Now all the Philadelphia Phillies and their fans can do is wait. For another day, at least. The Phillies say they will send Roy Halladay to see a doctor on Tuesday, two days after he came out of a start due to a sore right shoulder. On Monday, the team was still determining where and when, exactly, their star right-hander will be examined. Halladay first started to feel discomfort...

Halladay leaves after 2 innings

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay left his start against the Cardinals after two innings, matching the second-shortest outing of his career. The team had not revealed why Halladay, a two-time NL Cy Young winner, was replaced. Roy Halladay will go on disabled list and miss 6-8 weeks. Halladay, 4-5 with a 3.98 ERA, will be replaced on the roster by catcher Eric Kratz. There has been a lot of talk about Halladay’s velocity. I saw him on opening day in Pittsburgh and the Pirates fans talked about it in our area, but I dismissed it. Halladay went on to pitch a 1-0 shutout victory on opening day in Pittsburgh...

Roy Halladay Out 6-8 Weeks

Roy Halladay began the year battling diminished velocity and has struggled to pitch at a Halladay-esque level on a consistent basis. On Sunday, he left his start after just two innings, and after being evaluated today, the Phillies placed him on the disabled list with a strained latissimus dorsi muscle. On the one hand, at least it’s not an elbow or shoulder injury that sidelines...

Needing a Doctor: Halladay leaves game, Phillies drop finale

As far as first innings go, you couldn't draw up more of a disaster. A nearly insurmountable lead, another rough start for a top-of-the-line pitcher and the opposing ace on the mound. It was clear today wasn't going to be the Phillies day. The Cardinals took all the momentum in one swing, and the Phillies got more news they didn't need to hear. It was all part of a frustrating...

Injuries and Questions Plaguing the Phillies

As I am sure many of you are already aware, Roy Halladay has been placed on the DL with a right latissimus dorsi strain. His projected time for recovery is 6-8 weeks. The good news is that the strain is a Grade ½ which means he just needs rest for the muscle to heal. The bad news is he will be gone probably until August. Yikes. In regards to how long this has been going on, pitching...

On this day in 2010, perfection from Doc Halladay

On this day two years ago, the Philadelphia Flyers were riding their magical postseason run to the Stanley Cup Finals, their first appearance in the final round since being swept by the Detroit Red Wings in 1997. The Flyers were hot, taking out the second seeded New Jersey Devils in round one, followed by the comeback of all comebacks against the Boston Bruins, and a quick series...

Career Day for Wigginton Leads to Phillies Win

After a rough day on Sunday with a loss to the Cardinals and Roy Halladay pulled early due to shoulder soreness, the Phillies needed a serious lift. Seeing Carlos Ruiz scratched from today’s line-up with a sore hamstring was also not the good news this team was looking for. But with Cole Hamels on the mound, you had to think the Phillies had a shot against the Mets. Hamels delivered...
