Cole Hamels continued his red-hot season tonight at Citi Field, recording double-digit strikeouts in an outstanding effort which he would later receive the no-decision for. The offense showed up a little late tonight, long after Mets' starter Matt Harvey left the ballgame.
Jimmy Rollins started off this ballgame against Matt Harvey doing what he does best. Jimmy launched a lead-0ff solo home run on a 3-1 count. He got the green light for his 22nd home run of the season. His season high is 30, set in 2007.
Cole was looking sharp as always tonight. However, he would allow a run to score in the third. Ruben Tejada scored on a single from Daniel Murphy. Murphy has been a Phillies killer all season with a .343 average and 23 RBI against this team.
In the bottom of the sixth with the game still tied at 1, David Wright shot a solo home run to the seats in right-center field. 2-1 Mets.
Cole Hamels was still dealing, despite the two runs he allowed. Through six innings, Cole h...

I May Be Wrong, But 6-10 Years For Wright? Really?
Last week, in a poll on MetsBlog.com, 67 percent of voters said the Mets should try to sign Wright to a six- or seven-year contract extension this winter; while 12 percent said the team should blow him away with an eight-or nine-year deal.
Wow, I must be losing it… It just seems that lately my opinion is always out of line with the mainstream Mets fans…

Ike Davis Responds To Charges About Staying Out Late And Resisting Coaching
Ike Davis responded to a report on ESPN NewYork this morning that said he could potentially be traded this offseason and allegations from a baseball source that he is un-coachable and likes to stay out late.
“I don’t really have an answer for that because it’s never been an issue,” Davis said. “I’ve never done anything wrong. I show up to the field ready to play...
Phillies Eliminated – How Do You Like That Second Wild Card Spot Now?
It occurred to me yesterday that the Philadelphia Phillies string of National League East Championships had come to a quiet end. They are 16.5 games behind the Nats and 10.5 behind the Braves with just over 10 games to go.
Their run is over. And no one is talking about it.
Why?
Because the new, second and final Wild Card playoff spot is still in reach (barely) but it is still...

Mets game rained out :Collins back Davis
For the half dozen fans still watching the Mets game tonight has been rained out before any rain has hit the field. Tornado watches, which seem to be the new thing here in the tri state area are in effect until late this evening.

21 Hits and 16 Runs Later, the Phillies Sweep the Mets in 16-1 Blowout
Well, this was one hell of a ballgame.
After last night's ninth inning victory over the Mets, tonight's game (a makeup of Tuesday night's washout) which was started by Tyler Cloyd, was entertaining from the get-go.
In the top of the first inning, the Phillies scored eight runs. Yes, eight. Here's how it all went down:
MMO Interview: Phil Niekro, Tim Wakefield Visit R.A. Dickey At Citi Field Last Night
In honor of Knuckleball! the movie coming out, Hall-of-Famer Phil Niekro and 200-game winner Tim Wakefield were out and about prior to today’s game alongside the Mets own R.A. Dickey and were kind enough to answer some of my questions as well as some other Mets bloggers while watching BP with us along the first base side.
The interview began with Phil Niekro telling us the fascinating...
Disgusting Part 2: Elimination Boogaloo
I'm not going to go on another rant as I did last night. What's the point? Jeremy Hefner gives up eight runs in the first inning, the Mets give up another eight in the eighth and ninth, and they lose 16-1. It's no more or less disgusting than last night. It's just a different kind of disgusting. Whether it's Josh Edgin giving up a back breaking home run to Ryan...
Current Mets State Illustrates Why They Didn’t Bring Back Reyes
The Miami Marlins are in for the weekend, and with them comes Jose Reyes. Now that the season is dwindling down to a precious few games, I ask: Would the Mets season been significantly different had they re-signed Reyes?
I don’t see how that is possible after last night.
With the way the Mets are heading, by the time they are competitive again Reyes will be on the downside of...
Rumor Analysis: Ike Davis on the outs in NY?
It's not often you hear team sources divulging off-the-field information about a player. Well, leave it to the Mets to take care of that. Adam Ruben from ESPNNewYork.com passed along some interesting information regarding Mets' power hitting first baseman Ike Davis, suggesting that they would be more than willing to trade the slugger due to his unwillingness to...

Mets manager says he's embarrassed after 16-1 loss to Phils
NEW YORK -- As they have kept alive their slim playoff hopes, the Philadelphia Phillies have refused to quit. New York Mets manager Terry Collins refused to answer when asked if he thought his team had done just that after another thumping, telling reporters they had to "ask them." The Mets' march of misery continued at Citi Field on Thursday night, quickly hitting...

The Alderson Era: Waiting Another Year To See Some Results
Yesterday, our own Barry Duchan wrote a solid post expressing his dissatisfaction with how things have progressed as we complete year two of the Alderson Era. His argument was not like the usual “WE GOTTA SPEND MONEY” diatribes you see oftentimes, but more of a thoughtful look at some of the shortcomings he saw with regards to working around the money issues by doing...
