J.J. Hardy will have his struggles over the course of a season. But the Orioles' shortstop will also go on a tear now and then, and has the ability to carry the team when he's hot. Now is one of those good stretches. Hardy had a clutch hit in the seventh inning Thursday, giving the Orioles' a two-run lead in an eventual 5-3 victory over Kansas City. He finished 1-for-4 with two RBI. Entering Thursday he had four consecutive multi-hit games, going 9-for-19 with three doubles, a home run, six runs scored and six RBI. Hardy said the Orioles' hitters are confident, and even more so when starting pitchers can keep the game close enough for the offense to battle. The Orioles are 11 games over .500 after Thursday's victory. If Baltimore is to maintain that quality start, its fans can take some pleasure in knowing that at this point last season, Hardy -- who had missed about a month worth of games in April and May -- had two home runs and 12 RBI.
